question??? I have a 90 TSIAWD without any mods. I have reason to believe that some of my injectors are from a non-turbo. The problem is, I have to replace my spark plugs every so often because they get fouled out. (covered with black soot) the car runs like crap. on WOT the car blows out black smoke and the turbo charger gauge reads full boost but the car barely moves. I do get a code 41- injector.

I was wondering if mixed injectors could cause this and if so, would some injectors from a 3000gt non-turbo work in my car.

I have checked and replaced everything from the coil, the wires, the plugs, and checked for boost leaks.

Please Help Me.

Ok im going to try and not be a dick, but keep with me ok its not a bashing im doing just a general suggestion before you post ok? ok lets begin

First off you think you have N/A injectors in your car right? Why then would you want to replace you (possible n/a) injectors with Na injectors from another car?

Also lets do this, a 3000gt vr4 (twin turbo modle) uses 370cc injectors? (anyway they are smaller than our turbo injectors stock) So why would an N/A car have large enough enjectors to cover for your turbo car when then TT version of that car are smaller than ours to begin with?

So no these injectors for the non-turbo stealth or 3000gt will not work, the turbo ones will work but are smaller than what you have in there anyway so they wont work either. Go find some DSM TURBO injectors and put those in your car.

also the injectors may not be the problem but they might.

I am not all too familiar with 1g's, but I have read about the caps in the ecu leaking which causes the injectors to stay open. Thus, causing a rich condition. The black smoke and SP soot that you are referring to would seem to be a rich condition or possibly oil coming from somewhere. As far as the injectors are concerned, I would not jump to conclusions just yet, until you have checked what I suggested first. Also, as far injectors from a N/A, it makes no difference if they are for turbo or N/A as long as they are low impedance, top feed, direct bolt on, and deliver the amount of fuel that is required of them. What you asked is a valid question concerning the 3kGT. It is better to ask than assume, especially when it involves something that would put your car in jepoardy.
I have seen replacement caps for the ecu on various vendor site, but I do not know one off the top of my head. They are not expensive to replace and not uncommon that you will have issues finding them.
On another note, both replies to your thread seem to be from 2g owners, so hopefully a 1g owner, moderator, or wisemen (in no particular order) will chime in and confirm or correct what I told you. Good luck.

POssible causes ECU/Dead O2 Sensor Id say if your an auto get auto turbo injectors and if your a manual get manual turbo injectors (stock form) And if your getting a CEL light as I see you have a code figure out what it is, and fix it.

thanks guys. I will try to see if I can put my extra ecu in and see if that fixes the problem. The only thing is, I didnt want to go through that trouble if my injectors from mixed matched cars would still be the biggest problem. I dont know much about the gt's or stealths but I do know what our DSMs have in them. I have a complete 3000gt engine with low miles sitting in my dads other garage, injectors around these parts are hell-a expensive and I was wondering if they could simply work in my car, without spending the $400 for a new set.

but the ecu was/is a concern for me as well and I believe that may help.

I will also change the O2 sensor and see if that helps.

If anyone knows where I could get a college-student-affordable set of injectors that would be great.

oh and by the way it is a 5spd.

Thanks Again.

alright guys... Ive pulled my injectors and they all are apparently the 450's that are supposed to be there. I also put my other ecu in and still no difference. I looked at the capacitors and nothing looked fried or bad in either ecu.

does anyone know what would cause the car to dump too much gas in the cylinders?

Are all 4 plugs covered with the black soot? If its not the ecu, then perhaps maybe one of the injectors are bad. I don't know if its possible for all 4 to go bad at once. I would also consider switching back to the 1g MAS and see if the situation changes. While at that, I would also check to make sure all my connections are good and correct. Also, look into changing the o2 sensor as well. If the plugs are fouled up maybe change them as well. Swap back to the 1g MAS first, that won't cost you a thing but time. Then do the spark plugs. At this point, it should not cost you more than a set of regular NGK plugs to eliminate 2 factors. If there is no change, then I would change the o2 sensor being that it costs more and you can justify changing it because you have tried the other 2 thing I mentioned alerady. Good luck and keep us posted.

HELL YEA!!!!! oh Im sorry guys.. LOL.. well I put in the new ecu and voila- she purred like, well you know!

Thanks for all your help. I poped open both ecu's and it seemed like there was nothing wrong with either of them. But with your advice I put the other one in and all the problems that were happening went away.

Just wanted to keep you all posted..

Thanks!
