Alright so heres the deal. I put a Joe P MBC on today and when i was adjusting it it went to 19psi and stayed there. I have a stock fuel pump, according to the guy i bought it from, so i was just wondering if since it went to 19psi and held it there for a good bit and i NEVER got fuel cut, that if i prob have an aftermarket fuel pump?

Thanks,
Cody:talon:

You can hit 19 psi all day but its HORRIBLE for your engine. Just because it will go that high doesnt mean its supposed to. Joe MBC's are ok boost controllers but there are alot better ones out there that will hold and regulate boost better.

you can run 19 psi on the stock fuel pump (wouldnt recommend doing this however) the problem you may face is the amount of fuel your feeding the engine. You may be running lean. If you have a A/F gauge this will tell you. As long as your reading a positive number on the gauge you are safe. (safe as far as fuel delivery is concerned)

You will most likely break ring lands and hole your pistons if you do this. A/F guages for narrow-band 02 sensors are worthless when looking at the a/f ratios we need on turbo cars. Something more is needed or the a/f guage should be pegged full rich to remain safe.

Ya i knew that just cause the more psi thats being pushed doenst mean that its faster. It was at 17ish but it just felt like well it wasnt doin anything so thats why i turned it down and now it feels strong all the way through.

Thanks for the input.

Good that means you have some of your timing back. Before you were knocking bad and getting timing pulled way down as the motor tried to protect itself.

Ya i knew i was knockin b/c as soon as it went past 15psi it just felt like it died and stopped pulling.

The first run i made, a heater hose decided to split on me and antifreeze went all over and i thought i busted my head gasket. But then again i didnt think that b/c the first run it was only at 12psi and i found it odd how only 2psi would affect my head gasket. But it was just a hose and its fixed now and no big deal.

You might not have hit fuel cut if it was warm out concidering fuel cut is based on airflow and airtemp etc, but as the guys above said, 19psi on stock fuel is proboaly just gunna run your car lean and cause big time knock. with stock pump, 16 will probobaly feel the same as 20in the higher rpms due to advanced timing. I was running higher boost on my stock pump, about 16-17 ish but i had no datalogger to read knock. Just my opinion, but if i could do it again, a pocketlogger would have been my first purchase.
Enjoy :talon:

wut do you think the largest SAFE amount of boost you could get out of your stock injectors and stock fuel pump?

This really depends on the conditions of the pump and injectors. Stock 90 gear is going to be worn out and somewhat clogged. You really can't guess at a safe boost level without some sort of feedback equipment.

Running more than 16-18 psi on the stock pump is sketchy, there are no guarantees that it will be able to keep the flow up at the higher fuel pressures.
