I just measured the crankshaft endplay on my 97 GST with 51,000 miles on it. I used a dial indicator at the flywheel. I measured it to be between 0.006" and 0.007". I know the spec is 0.002"-0.0071" and the wear limit is 0.0098".

Should I be worried about these results since it is pretty close to out of spec (although it still has a little ways to go to the wear limit)?

Is crankwalk a black and white issue? Are cars that are anywhere within spec in pretty good shape while cars that are affected going to usually be past the wear limit?

Thanks!

Don't worry about it, but I'd remove your clutch switch, so you can start the car w/o the clutch pushed in. In fact I'd tell everyone to do that.

All you need to do is disconnect the connector to the clutch pedal switch. There are 2 switches. One for the cruise control and one for the ignition sequence. Take a look at the clutch pedal and follow up inside the dash. Depress the clutch pedal. Simply disconnect the connector that goes to the switch that is depressed when the clutch pedal is down.
