I have a 96 Talon TSI (FWD) this is the sencond motor for this car and it has crankwalk again. I'm not trying to motor swap again, because of the fact I just finished one a week ago. I want to replace the main thrust bearing so it will run for at least a couple hundered miles or at least till I sell it. First question is the diffuculty rating on this project and any speacial tools needed? Also, I want to do this while motor is still in car, so what all do I have to do to get at the bearing and how do I slide the new one in? I know you need to take the oil pan off, but it gets a little confusing after that since I havent done it before. Do you have to take the crank out or just move it somehow enough to get the new bearing in. step by step instructions would be nice and pictures too? any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think anyone has any advice because it sounds like your going to dick over whoever buys your car. I bought a crankwalked 1G AWD and the guy who sold it to me definitely knew about it before he sold it. If I saw him I would probably beat his ass down, which is probably going to happen to you. :thumb:

like he said..your going to rip someone off, but whatever.

I dont think that its possible to do it with the tranny bolted to the engine, you can take the caps off and replace the bearings there but the bearins on the block are going to be a PITA. you need to lower the crank and to do that you need to take the flywheel off and the crankpulley and frontcase. Also a PITA. its actually easier to buyanother engine and put that in :p

Just move the transduction inducer to the left a litte to get at the crank. You do have to unbolt the transmission and spindle gears thou.
