was up guys, im looking for help on to makeing autometer gauges better for performance, now i know alot of people are thinking this is dumb but have you ever looked at the boost/vac line that comes with there boost gauge, i know alot of people dont like the idea of what this line is. im tring to choose between autometer and defi gauges and much rather go with auto sense there like 1/4 of the price as defi. what im looking for is in put on how you guys made your autometers better quality such as using a 1/4 nylon hose instead of the plastic one, egt used a diffrent probe, oil pressure used copper lines ect.

im looking for input on boost, egt, oil and fuel pressure and water temp thanks

I ditched the compression fittings that came with my Autometer Boost Gauge. You can go buy some NPT Fittings to convert to a 1/4 Nylon Hose Barb at your local hardware store.

ya thats what im thinking of doing for the boost gauge, but now im curious as what to do for the egt, oil and fuel pressure.

i know as for the probe they tell you to get a diffrent one but i cant find it anymore or the name.

There are two different EGT gauges too. The more expensive one does not come with the probe as a kit. It's much more accurate and reacts much faster then the one that comes with everything together. The gauge and probe have different part numbers.

I have had the cheaper and now the more expensive EGT in my Talon and I can say the better EGT is much faster, however still a useless gauge in my opinion.

For OIL I buy the mechanical gauge but ditch the nylon tubing and use copper. I bought the same length of copper line with compression fittings and a steel T for my oil filter housing because that is where my turbo is fed from (2G) The reason you buy a STEEL T fitting is because brass can snap after time and if that snaps off you konw what happens, steel wont. THe fitting is 6x the money but still cheap in the grand shceme of things. Always use steel fittings where ever there is vibration and avoid brass like the plague. Yes I have seen it break on cars before.

thanks jim, that made some sense i think if i get autometter ill try that, and what is the diffrence of the pro comp series if any.

so now i know what to do for boost and oil pressure how about fuel pressure water temp.

also i know the egt now, but what is a good probe that will work with autometer thanks

i used their tubing on the boost guage, tre probe on a pro-comp egt guage, and an electric oil pressure guage. (no way i'm running a line of hot oil into the interior with me)

LOL ya, i plan on going with manual boost, electronic oil pressure, fuel pressure, water temp, and egt, unless its better to use manual for these.

or should i just spend the money and get some nice defi bf series

thanks

ok well i came down too it and i think im going with autometer and fix them up a little bit. because im going with dsmlink so i dont realy need realy exspensive gauges, and with the money i save i could get other stuff. so now i know wha to do for the boost, egt.

but as for fuel pressure and oil pressure, not sure if i should get electrnoic or manual, i know i want the fuel pressure inside my car so i could monitor the fp to boost but what is a safe way to do this as well as the oil pressure gauge. i know about the copper lines for oil pressure and i also heard that its a closed line so no oil will get into my inside. could someone give me more info on what is safe and what to do for fuel pressure and oil pressure thanks

That pic is shep's dash board.

The procomp series gauges are great.. Especially the 0-35psi boost gauge. You can add a memory kit to record peak boost on a run pretty cheap as well...

Get the liquid filled mechanical procomps for everything but Fuel pressure.

Use the electronic procomp fuel pressure gauge so you can mount it inside. Mech fp guages must be externally mounted unless you use an isolator..

hey man there is no link posted, also will the electronical fp gauge be accurite. thanks. also for the oil pressure manual is better thanks

www.autometer.com

Where it says sport compacts click here... Ignore it .. Click the gauge on the left. Then on the next screen click the 2003 catalog..

Then look for procomp under racing

There is no such thing as manual gauge....

Its electrical or mechnical. It's all about what actually makes the gauge tick..

A mechnical gauge... say a boost gauge.

A vaccum line is run from the mani to the gauge. Pressure actually moves the pointer against a calibrated resistance.

Electrical boost gauge.

Pressure actuates a pressure sensor which produces a given output at a certain pressure. The guage reads the sensor and moves the pointer to match.

Mechanical boost gauge is a good idea. Same with a mechanical oilpressure gauge. With the exception of what it takes in add ons to cockpit mount a mechanical fuel pressure gauge... mechanical gauges are simpler, more fool proof and typically a bit more accurate when compared to an electronic gauge of the same quality.

A electrical fuel pressure gauge is best for most people.

LOL ya mecanical thats what i ment. do you change the lights the same way as the other gauges thanks

I have all Autometer Phantom gauges and I couldn't be more happy. Although for oil and water temp, I would be more comfortable going with an electronic rather than a mechanical for accident's sake. Getting plowed in the right spot on the driver's side is an easy way to break the line going to gauge and spray hot oil all over you or in your passenger compartment. The same goes for water as well.. Just my 2 cents..

I'll have my hose guys do a -4an ss stainless braid line for me on my mechanical pressure gauges... Just thread an to npt couplers into the gauge body and you are good.

I'm not much on mechanical temp gauges.. Go electrical there too.
