I got a 97 talon with a EVO3 16G turbo in it.. I know that ill need a S-AFC, Injectors and Fuel pump, but what kind of Fuel pump is good? Also I saw a used Fuel pump on sale for $50.. It was the 190lph? Would that be enought to handle this turbo? I plan to boost at least 20-23 lbs but for now just get it tuned right at 16 lbs? wut kind of Fuel Pump is good also cheap? Let me know.. Thanks

most people just pay the extra amount for a 255, but if you really are on budget, go with the 190

just get the 255 high pressure and get it over with.. 90-100 bux and youll never need to worry about needing a bigger pump

thats funny, theres no difference in price between the walbro 190lph, 255lph and 255 high pressure lph

Well there is a price difference since he said that 190lph pump is 50 bucks used...
Anyway, a 190lph pump is good enough, but get a fuel pressure regulator too.
But if you can, get your hands in a Walbro 255lph fuel pump, it's proven to be good with our cars, no modifications required to install, and delivers good fuel pressure, then again it's your call if you're in a budget.

if you are so cheap your gonna buy a USED walbro when a new one is under 100 bux you need to get out of the game now..

and i never needed a FPR with my 255 till i got bigger injectors.

Hell man, gettin it cheap is the name of the game :)

If you get the pump for $50 used, then you can get a Colt regulator and a manual boost controller with the leftover :)

Or maybe get an aftermarket boost guage(used) too. Maybe $125 for all 4!! :)

Now thats a true DSM'er :)

yup, buy a bunch of cheap crap, break your car, and have it sitting under a tarp... true DSMer..

Im all for being thrifty, but some things that are worth doing ARE worth doing right..

I would not skimp on a fuel pump for sure.. that 50 bux you save might cost you 2 grand a year from now..

dont screw around with fuel, buy good stuff, buy above and beyond what you think you will need.. fuel is your cars blood, the only place bargin hunting does not belong. get good stuff and do it right..

i highly agree with that statement :thumb: :dsm:

good and cheap are not mutually exclusive.

the used Colt regulator has less miles on it than the stock one and no one would say the stock one is bad.

A well made used MBC would serve anyone fine.

and a well cared for boost guage should still be just as good.

As for the pump, yea maybe you should get a new pump, but if you KNOW that the other one is low mileage and has no problems it should be ok. After all, after a few months the new fuel pump in your car is a good low mileage used one.

that said, I bought a new 255.

i say go with a walbro 255 and be done with it... i just installed one on my awd laser earlier today. it was a pain but worth it. and i notice a good gain of power with my current setup. and you dont need a fpr, nor a rewire. but then again ALL CARS ARE DIFFERENT. and im not running crazy rich as i though i would. my stock fuel psi was @ 31psi and now at 41psi. one thing i did have to do was adjust the biss screw cuz rpms were jumping at 1000x to 1500 but its set back to 900. so its all good.. sorry for the extra input. later

SO can u guys help me out then? Wut exactly do i need to put on an upgraded fuel pump? the 190 wouldnt need an install kit but the 255 does? wut exactly is the install kit and how much does it cost?

not sure. i bought mine from AMS a dsm shop not to far from me and it was already in kit form. and they sale it for 125 out the door for the 255 pump. i dont think they sale the 190. but you should try there forums for extra research. heres there site www.automotosports.com hope this helps:thumb:

the reason you really should have an afpr with a bigger pump is because it makes your fuel curve non-linear. For every 1psi of boost, fuel pressure is supposed to rise 1psi also. However a bigger pump overruns the crappy stock fpr, resulting in a messed up fuel curve that is hard to tune, especially with larger injectors.

And really expensive products always work as advertised and never fail? ;)

Any upgraded fuel pump needs an adjustable fuel pressure regulator ( AFPR ). Period. Just because someone bolts something on their car and it "runs" doesn't mean it is working properly. Get the AFPR before the pump or at the same time. And a fuel pressure gauge. Tuning a car that has a pump and no AFPR is hell, especially on injector pulse timing.

Do it once and do it right. :thumb:

You just described fuel pressure regulator overrun... Maybe you do need a new FPR.

Damn this is discouraging! I was about to buy a Walbro 190 and now you guys are saying it goes hand in hand with an upgraded FRP?? Mo money! Mo money! Mo money! Ok, whats the drawback (other than not being able to tune it well) to NOT getting the FPR right now? Will my Talon go up in flames?

with a 190, you wont need a different regulator.

And most 5spd 1g cars will not NEED one either. I had my 255 wired in with 10guage direct from the battery. It did fine, ran well, passed aircare etc.

Each car is different tho, and the 2g cars and auto 1g turbo cars have higher pressure regulators.
