I've been doing alot of reseach on which head gasket I should use, and since I am chosing not to get the block resurfaced (I am getting the head resurfaced though) I think I will be better off using the stock mitsubishi composite head gasket with ARP head studs. I'm rebuilding the block this summer, so I'll probably have it decked by a machine shop and then I'll go with a metal gasket. My ONLY question is, where can I actually purchase the stock mitsu head gasket!??!?? Dealership? Online? How much does it usually cost? I've been look all over online, and nobody seems to sell it. Autozone sells a felpro gasket that it supposedly similar to the stocker, but I wasn't so sure...can anyone point me in the right direction?

Ok thats one place that has it, does anyone know how much would it cost from a dealership? Does anyone know any alternative aftermarket (non-metal) head gaskets that are any good?

That is a dealership.

Only use the Mitsu composite headgasket. I wouldn't trust anyone elses composite gasket. The Mitsu gasket has been proven even up in the 25psi pressure levels.

Also, you should always have the deck resurfaced if you are doing a rebuild, even if it means taking fine grit sand paper and going over it very well to remove the old material. Not resurfacing the deck is just asking for something to happen.

Yeah I am definitely going to remove all of the gasket material off the block and make it nice and shiny again, but theres still no way to know if its going to be totally flush unless its milled at the machine shop. I don't have the time or the money to do that right now (doing the block rebuild this summer, with crower + ross combo). The only reason I even have the head off right now is because of a coolant leak (blown gasket) just thought I might rebuild the head while I'm at it. I'm thinking about tossing in some of those black nitrided ss valves from slowboyracing.com, anyone ever try these? Supposedly the coating on the valves reduces friction between the stem and the guide...worth a try I suppose....
