cams locked up

I took my car to a mechanic and he said my cams locked up. What dsoe this mean....does it mean i need a new head or can it be rebuilt. And if the cams locked up are they still good. The head wasnt getting any oil he said thats why they locked up. Never heard of this problem. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Never heard of this, but good advice for getting any work done on a car is to always get a second opinion. I wish you the best of luck!

It sounds like he means they seazed up. Generally what happens is the bearing caps that go over the cams need oil to allow the cams to spin normally. If that oil is not there they just grind and create heat until they seaze.

If that happened to your head then it's smoked, your cams are smoked everything is toast. Just pull that head off and throw it in the garbage. If it was oil starved then it's not worth anything at all.

If you check out dsmtrader you can find a replacement head rather easily...also look at the classified section on this forum.

You might just have to replace the head, and maybe you can do it yourself and save some green $$$

thanks guys....i was thinking about getting a head from Clearwater cylinder heads out of flordia...anyone head about them and there work. They will send me a rebuilt head with a stage 1 port and polish for $650. Good deal???

you should also check out the block and see what was causing the head to not get any oil. If it is a blockage in the head, then no worries. If it is a blockage in the block itself, now would be the time to fix it.

i have a 6 bolt head thats in mint condition that i have not pulled off my 60K parts car. i wont kill you on the price either. i have the stock turbo cams and gears also. at no additional cost, ill just throw them in the box with the head. These heads go for 300 ill give it to you for 200.
