Should i get Cams and Intake Manifold??

Sup guys,

I have a 93GSX and am considering getting some cams and an intake manifold to get some better output from my setup. My current setup is as follows.
Stock 1G motor
AEM
PTE 60 trim turbo .63 AR
770cc injectors
SS Custom Header
BOV
Tial Wastegate
FMIC

Cars running fine, was dynoed 329whp at 20psi pump gas tuned pretty conservative.

I can get some 272 cams, custom Intake Manifold (dynoed MAJOR HP increase with this on buddies car) and some ARD HEad studs.

Am i really pushing this motor to the extreme limits here? will this be safe? on race gas and 25psi the car made 389whp and with the new mods it will be well into the mid-upper 400whp range.

What do you all think? Havent been reading up on the dsm stuff for a while, too busy with work and crap.

Yes the cams and intake manifold would be a logical upgrade at this stage. I would probably run a compression test first and see how your numbers are first. Your dyno numbers are a little low for a 60 trim setup. I would expect you to be around 430-450 whp at 25 PSI especially with an EMS. Maybe you've got a leeky HG or some worn rings?

The car was tuned very conservative since it is a street car (almost daily driven) and im sure we can get alot more out of it. The tuners did'nt want to see me blow it up.
 
From what i have read is that the stock bottom end is good for 400-450whp and in that range you are on the edge of the stock stuff. I would do the cams and intake manafold and try and get 400whp on pump then think about getting internals done and then go up from there. Good luck.

There a few cars out there pushing 450whp on the stock motor.

Looking at your supra, you definitly know what your doing.

You should go all out the the GSX and try to set the record for most HP on the stock motor!!
 
I have a buddy who just added a bj intake and cams on his car. He went from 117mph traps to 124mph. He is still on the stock 6 bolt motor.

You should be fine just use race gas when you turn up the boost, it is a lot better for your motor.

Cams are good for 50hp, and intake is good for another 30 plus you will have solid power in through the high rpm band.
 
yea the motor SHOULD be fine adding those things still and you should gain some times .... anything after that though and you'll have to start messing with the internals.
 
Thanks everyone. Seems like i can upgrade these items and be fine with stock motor. I know for sure my car was tuned way to conservative as the shop didnt want to see me blow it up. Hitting it from 90mph-130mph my EGT's are 1400 and AFR is 11.2. no wonder it only dynoed 389 at 25psi. need more TIMING :)
 
I have a 60 trin on my car too. Going to dyno it in the spring. i'm hoping for 400 on pump gas. and high 400 on race.

But my car has a built motor plus Cams.
 
Sounds about like me I hit 333whp on 20psi and pump gas and 393whp on 26psi and 110 octane with my L3R on a totally stock engine. Cams and Intake manifold would really wake your car up but Id watch making too much HP on a totally stock engine. I have since upgraded to 272s, built head and built bottom end and intake manifold are on the way. I wont be happy until 500whp is reached :)
