I know theres debate over what is a GOOD exhaust sound, but I'm looking for something NOT like your average honda civic or #@%#@%#@% ass rice mobile with a OMG6 inch tipOMG etc. Eagle talons are NICE cars, they are 4 cylinder "imports", but they are actually performance cars. I don't buy off on that rice rocket garbage. Anyway, does anyone know how I can avoid the dreaded ricer boy sound on my Tsi, but still achieve good performance (keep in mind i have 20Psi and 400 horsepower to vent off) Any helpful ideas would be greatly appreciated, like a certain type of muffler, size tubing, whatever. Go with a 3in downpipe to a 3in exhaust. I have the Apex DP and the Apex Dunk exhaust, its really deep and throaty, not buzzy like the "rice mobiles" you speak of.

How do you figure you have 400hp? Is that what you are aiming for?
 
I'm going to go out on a limb and raise the BS flag about the 400hp you're wanting to "vent". If you don't even have an aftermarket exhaust on the car, then there's no way you're near 400hp, even if you're "venting" 20psi. And to answer your question, a full three inch turbo-back. Thermal Research and Development has about the best sound if that's your main concern.

Under mods...you list: "stock"....I also call BS. Thermal seems to be one of the favorites for most folks, but I'll stick with the el-cheapo I've go on mine for now:p
 
I wasn't sure what he meant by that thats why I asked if he wanted 400hp.. I hate to tell him but a stock 92 tsi has no where near 400hp, nor 20psi..

*sigh*

you'd think if someone had 400hp they'd know this answer themselves.
 
I have a magnaflow straight through muffler... no special shapes, no special tip (RRE dual outlet)... I wasn't going for the 'bling bling' effect, I wanted a very quiet straight through exhaust design.

The car sounds as quiet as stock at WOT... well, untill the external opens up -- then it's obvious something is 'wrong'
 
I think what he trying to say about 20psi and 400hp to vent off is what he is aiming for and is looking for a exhaust that can perform good enough for it I say go for the Thermal R & D is what I have deep throaty sound the performance to go with it you will not be disapointed in Thermal one bit . It is a 3 inch with no resinators what so ever and comes with a 5inch angle or flat cut tip your choice you can fin it on Thermal's site or go to www.ahpproducts.com for it also that is where I got mine for a great deal but took awhile to get it to me which really makes people mad and he should work on that !!!! well good luck with your choice !

Black95GSX: Do you have a CAT on your exhaust? My exhaust (I bought it used and have no clue who made this) is 2.5" turbo back, no CAT, straight through muffler. My car is pretty loud just cruising around. When the wastegate opens (o2 Dump) the car next to me has the look of death on their face. I installed a high-flow CAT when I took my car in for inspection and I couldnt believe the sound and performance difference.
 
hang on... I can see the sound difference, but performance? I thought the cat would only cause more restrictions and decrease performance (which might be what you meant in the first place... not sure).

I chose not to list all my mods in the mod section because i was short on time. I have a big 16, ported EVO manifold and housing, turbo XS boost controller, greddy turbo timer, random technologies cat, 3 inch downpipe, 750cc injectors, fuel pressure reg. FMIC with spearco, warlbro fuel pump, autometer 30 psi boost gauge, HKS AFR, Centerforce dual friction, short shifter, AND GREDDY EXHAUST. I DO have aftermarket exhaust, and i #@%#@%#@%#@%ing hate it!!! It sounds like an almost dead moose, and i absolutely HATE not being able to be distinguished from a god damn 1990 honda CRX with an amazing mod list of: HUGE 40 DOLLAR MUFFLER I'm not your average idiot that thinks an eagle talon runs 20psi stock. I spent an assload of cash to get mine safely and reliably @ 20, and I'd hate to think that I'm going to have to sell this car just because it sounds so terrible. Thanks again - Zack

No, I do not have a CAT..... I have a 36" resonator and a straight through muffler.... you can ask z1500.. he has seen and heard my car in person...

Hmm, what kind of Greddy exhaust is it, the SP? If so, that might be your problem-- I think that's only like just over a 2" pipe in places. A 3" system would definitely not sound Honda-like. With your mod list, you probably would want a 3" exhaust anyway.
 
I have a no-name full 3in w/4in tip turbo back,from the local exhust shop. Under normal driving it is a little louder than stock, under WOT it is a lot louder. Has a deeper tone, not the high-pitched honda sound.
