I want to put my safc in the center vent, and I would like to make the pod that it mounts in myself. I was thinking that it wouldn't be too hard to make it out of something like lexan but I have a couple of questions.

For anyone who has bought a pod:

1. How does the afc stay in place in the hole?
2. What holds the peice of plastic/metal (the pod) to the area around the center vent?

If you've made one yourself and could post any information that would be helpful in me making one of these pods that would be awesome!

Thanks a lot.

Do you know where you can get that "shoe goo"? I remember that stuff from my stakeboaring days, it peels off right?

Do you have a pic of the afc vent pod u made?

the walmart fabric department will know what you want and no, it takes forever to pull it off. i took mine out because i was getting to hot and i wanted the more sleeper effect so i took out my deck and put my afc/acv-r down low which i advice u to do if anyway possible. another good place to put it is in you glove compartment or arm rest :thumb:

I didn't make an AFC holder, but I did make a center-vent gauge holder.

I pulled out the original vent, and used the reinforcing out of a binder I had as the material (It was black and textured, just like the rest of the car, so I thought it was perfect, it looks pretty good, I think).

I did run into a few problems. I used some sort of thick adhesive stuff that could be removed at a later date. The summer heat was too much for the glue though, and the edges lifted up, and the whole thing kept popping out. To fix it, I ended up cutting another piece of thicker plastic, and gluing it to the back of the notebook stuff. It friction-fit into the vent slot pretty well... Until winter came around, and everything changed size. I ended up super-gluing it into the vent, and I'll just have to rip it out of there if I want to add any more.

Behind the original vent, there was a duct that went deeper into the dash. I had to cut the bottom of this up, so I could push the wires and vacuum hose down towards the pedals without creasing the crap hard vacuum hose autometer gives you. I just shoved them generally in that direction, and they popped out of the back of the dash right by the pedals by chance/luck I guess.

As far as what holds the original vent in, if I remember correctly, it was a couple of screws or clips or something that you can see behind the louvers. It was pretty simple after looking at it for a second. It only took a min to get out. The gauge was also held in by the bracket that comes with the gauge that you can attach.
