I was just wondering if anyone have an Apexi N1 replica exhaust on their turbo dsm's. I've seen some on e-bay, but they don't really look identical to the real deal ones. Any info/comments would be helpful, I was thinking about having one installed on my gsx this week. thanks...

Not really sure because my exhaust system is a full 3" from my turbo all the way back with absolutly no reductions in the size of the pipe. All flanges are 3" inside diameter so the pipe slides inside when you weld it on not buts to the end of the flange. The pipes touch each other when you bolt the flanges together for a smooth flow. I also worked really hard at minimizing the bends and making them as long as possible so my exhaust was as straight as possible. It's all flanged up with a full 3" cat as well which is really only a hollow case welded over a test pipe which is also flanged with 3" ID flanges for a pipe to pipe contact. The flex section is also 3" ID so it's slips over the exhaust pipe for a really smooth flow. I even angled the inside of the exhaust pipe on both ends so it didn't run into the edge of the exhaust pipe by being welded ID like that. Absolutly no where in my exhaust system does the pipe get any smaller than 3". Even the muffler is 3" through. Some 3" mufflers have a 3" inlet on the back and 4" tip on the front. The inside howver is 2.5" where if flows through the inside of the muffler. I'm not saying APEXi is like that however I know of some others that are.

So does it perform like an N1 system? I'm not sure because my exhaust is complete and not a bolt on cat-back thats designed to bolt onto a stock catalitic converter. I also built my whole system for $250 which makes my wallet a little heavier when I drive around :p

All our systems now come with a N1 stlyle mufffler. It looks very similar to the N1 muffler and performs better too. All our systems are a true 3" and have no restrictions at all.

im runnin' a eBAY special $50 3" turbo muffler. Its a OBX B9 bomb looks almost exactally like an N1. It is louder than shit! WAY louder than my N1 on my FWD. Id say get it just put a resonator in the exhaust somewhere, and honestly it looks to be better built:D

...that's what I'm going to do. Except there's no adapter/connecter. Just buy a universal muffler from ebay or whatever and take it to a muffler shop. They'll weld it to you piping and fabricate hangers for it.

Most replica N1 mufflers I have found are straight through. So yes. And for much much cheaper anyway.

I built this my self. Spent about $230 in parts. I still have to weld 2-3 hangers

I built my exhaust system myself and here are the parts used.

Downpipe:
T3 Backing Plate from Turbonetics, SS (I'm running a T3/T4 50Trim)
3" 90deg going down towards the ground
3" 90deg to turn towards the back of the car.
about a foot of 3" stainless pipe
3" stainless flex section
3" flange to complete down pipe

Cat:

3"flange to conect to down pipe
about a foot of 3" stainless pipe
3" catalitic converter shell slid over pipe (for effect)
3"flange to connect to cat-back portion

Cat-Back portion:

3" flange to connect to cay
about a foot of stainless pipe
18" long x 3" stainless steel resonator
about 5" of 3" stainless pipe to run back to the muffler with some super light bends in it to clear the roll bar and get over to the drivers side of the car
3" stainless steel Polished Vibrant Performance Turbo Muffler with 4" tip

Other:

I have 3 O2 bungs welded into my down pipe. 2 for the required O2 sensors and an extra with a plug in it for my wideband O2
All hangers are stainless steel
The whole exhaust system was then painted in VHT silver caliper paint which will not come off with the heat. Looks really nice too. :thumb:

any other questions?

Sure.

You will hear my two step in the beginning and my exhaust down the track. You will also hear part way through the exhaust from the VR6 but thats only half way down the track the you hear mine again once he shifts.

I have my wastegate back into my exhaust however I have no cat and a resonator and N1 style muffler as stated above so that's all your hearing. No external wastegate noise (I'm cutting it out now so that will change)

Exhaust sound

...I would also like to know as I am fabricating my own exhaust system as well.

Thanks,
Jake

If you were looking for a cat back it would likely be 150-300 depending on what you want. If your looking for a resonator and everything flanged with stainless and stainless hangers then higher, if you wanted a cheaper system made in mild steel then the 150. Those would both be mandrel bent 3".
