hmm... im just sugjesting this, and its odd that i havent ever seen this mod before. Why not just take a small low profile electric cooling fan and attach it to the stock intercooler? I mean, with the splash gaurd cut and the fan running i would imagine the cooling woudl be a lot better. ther are a whole bunch of companies that make thes fans

I would worry that the air flow at speed would be much lower with a push fan on top. I do think that in driving around town it would do a great job with cooling. It should also help reduce heat soak if you make a pass and then pull over to look at your datalog. I think the fan would be too much or a restriction at 70+ mph to make the benefits worth it.

WTF do you mean every intercooler has a fan inside?!?!!??!

As far as the fan idea -- you get pretty decent flow as is..... if your looking for something *extra* on the street -- not at the track, you could rig up an IC sprayer useing the same kind of sprayers you'd find at home-depot for the outdoor cooling systems. I've seem them before, and they work pretty damn well.... they can actually lower temps below ambient if you set it up right (fine enough mist).

This idea is pointless. A shot of water over the intercooler is what needs to be done.

My DSM has a fan on the intercooler... Doesn't seem to be much of a restriction while going. I just switch it on between runs at the autox to help cool it off...

hmm... cause we all know water is all around, sorry, but the fact is water or co2 or whatever runs out, air does not. I also dont thing there are fans on them? And... the fans spin so fast that the push of air on to them most likely wont slow them down, if the thing is enginiered properly. I think that when the car is not movin the charge would be cooler, and the fan would also facilitate flow at high speeds.

If you get a fan that pulls instead of pushes in will be less of a restiction at hig speeds. Also i read something about fans one time and if I remeber correctly pullers don't restrict air flow at higher speed hardly at all.

The fan would only do something if the car is at idle and would also be pointless because once you started moving again forced air would hit the intercooler. How many people have you seen run a fan on the outside of their intercooler in direct path of the forced air?

I stand by my previous statement. I don't see people rushing to put a ran on their intercooler but to go between their turbo cars and soak the intercooler with cold water at the track.

The theory of the fan may be beneficial at the autox but until someone goes out and does it with before and after temperaturs of the intake tract then I am going to disregard this theory. It's only a hypothesis until proven beneficial or accurate.

This is a very interesting topic. I have a problem with overheating anything over 65 mile per hour. but when I turn on my a/c the problem goes away. The FMIC core I have is griffin 10 by 20 by 2.75 and I've started to have these problems when I place the FMIC on. I was actual thinking about placing one fan, a puller on the fmic and haveing it run all the time. I think that would help pull are faster to through out the intercooler core and so on.

My question is why do BMW have pushers if puller are better?

just a small suggestion here, what about if you relocate the the sidemout to an opening in the front. You could paint is i guess and you wouldnt see it or get a grill to put in front of that. Its just a stupid idea i had.

ryan, More cornered piping for an inefficient intercooler.

AWDboost, in your case I would find a slim fan that can go in front of the radiator and behind the intercooler. I would actually test both pusher and puller.
