I am rebuilding my 1990 Plymouth Laser RS Turbo engine at my highschool and my teacher is having concerns that I shouldn't buy these really expensive parts yet. I told him the price on rods are $359 at slowboy racing and he thinks thats kinda expensive. In my opinion I want to do this engine right the first time and wondering what you guys think should I buy these parts, they are a lil pricy but what isn't for a dsm. I really want to get ross or wiesco pistons with eagle rods. Hoping to put new bearings on the crankshaft or get it rejournaled if it needs it. What do you guys think should I go with a good set up?

If you want to do it right then make wure to replace all the bearings. Also slowboy racing has some of the best prices so your teacher doesn't really know what he is talking about.

your shop teacher is most likely use to working on domestics, import parts tend to be a bit more expensive.

Exactly I am sure he is used to working on domestics more like tractors and I really want to make this car run good and make the shop time worth while and get use out of the tools while i have the chance. My parents agree its expensive but its worth doing right with good parts. I am gonna go for it cause it's what I want to do and what he thinks for prices is probably way different because he is used to buying cheaper parts.

well since it is a 91 laser, i'm guessing it has a 6 bolt(unless its a freak and had a different engine swapped in). this means your rods can handle ALOT OF HP! unless you plan on making over 400 hp, it isnt necisarry...but definately won't hurt.
go with at least 2g pistons though, and if you have the money then go with forged...but there are many other places to spend the money to get up to that 400hp mark!
and yes, domestics are alot different than imports......me and my buddy have built up a few 360's......parts are way cheaper, but the power to displacement ratio is nothin compared to a turbocharged 4banger.
don't discard all of the info the teacher is giving you....just run it by the board first :p
