I'm curious as to how many people consider themselves seasoned DSM guys. I'm not looking for someone to label themselves as a DSM god but give me some experience you guys have. I think it would be helpful when reading reply posts and matching a name to experience and considering it good information. I know there are some old school guys on here who have been around the block a time or two, you know the guys who own a 17mm ratcheting box wrench for those 2G rear tranny mounts, you'll know what I mean if you have ever done a engine install on a 2G.

Me personally I have rebuilt two motors 1-7 bolt and 1- 6bolt. The 7 bolt went belly up after 20 miles due to a sized oil pump. The six bolt was successful. I have done various clutch installs on 1G and 2G AWD and FWD cars. Over my life I have owned 2 1G DSM's and 1 2G DSM. I have cracked open two trannies and done one LSD. As you can see from my pics my experience varies .My tuning experience is not so great but hope to improve on it over the years. Any others want to jump in?

Everything that can be torn apart on my car, I have pretty much torn apart. However, I still learn new things everyday.

I consider myself decent...I don't give bad information...or atleast try not to. I try to only reply to posts if I know the answer to the question...or think I know a possible answer.

I don't have a 6-bolt. I haven't built my motor. I don't have that money yet. But I have done everything on the car myself...except the fuel pump cause my IC piping was being modified and installed so I just got that done at the same time, the injectors...also cause my car was already at DSS for port work and fixing a broken stud in the turbo for the O2 housing, and the clutch was already in the car. But I have done port work on my friends 323 GTX, I have done a fuel pump before on my old accord which was much more complicated and required droping the tank...injectors are simple and I watched as it took Andrew at DSS 10 min to put them in

Ok...so I haven't done anything too complicated. Why do I think I am decent...cause I have had experiences...experiences which I have learned from. My strong point is tuning...I just seem to be good at it...especially with DSMLink...just makes it soo easy. My weak point would be trannies. I've never worked on one, except for changing the fluid, and I have no idea how to install an LSD...maybe I'll attempt it one day.

The seasoning is still being sprinkled on me...but I get it and I understand...and more suprising maybe...I'm 17.

haha #### man, you didnt seem 17? isnt matt going to UCSB?

im thrown off now...

ANYWAY

ive dealt with a plethora of honda motors and been around enough v8s and volkswagen engines.

when i got my car i didnt know ish and just sat back and read forums till my eyes bleed...only because i couldnt afford the mods back then.

im looking towards the 6 bolt end now, i know i could build it but it scares me to death...my daily driver...always afraid to screw up.

ive dropped my turbo way too many times as well...im getting good enough to do it for a living.

uhm with the really hard stuff i find on this forum i usually call brian or hit up one of the elders on AIM so I can answer first :D (airpopoff probably wont answer questions ever again now that i say it..haha)

god damn 13sec gst, you're hella spoiled :p [/envy]

How many times do I have to tell people

I paid cash for my car...cash I worked hard for
I paid for every mod done to my car
I pay for the gas for my car
I pay the insurance bill on my car (300/month)

Maybe thats why I don't seem 17...I know I look it...but I don't think I act it.

So no...I'm not spoiled...I just know how to work. And I'll be 18 on 1/11/04

why get so defensive :D you spoil yourself with your car....haha

some of us got the car when it was 20,000+ so thats why they assume your spoiled.

i figured you were older because i sure as hell dont look my age.

LOL...yeh I just re-read what I wrote and it does sound pretty defensive...I didn't mean for it to be so I'm sorry it came out that way.

I was kinda being sarcastic when I said "how many times do I have to tell people"

And the rest was just kind of informative. But yeh...I wasn't upset or defensive at all in reality.

And Sidoze...I coulda swore I told you I was only 17...guess not though.

I'm 17 and I can barely afford any mods for my talon. I paid for my talon as well, but my job is crap for hours so I see no income to pay for mods :(

I have almost $37,000 (Cost of car + mods) in my car so all you guys have no room to talk. I'm by no means bragging but these cars are money sensitive and do require a nice cash flow to keep things going.

I will be approaching the $50000 grand mark on my car with car cost and mods as I'm completing my built 6 bolt swap and EMS. I learn more and more everyday. I think your idea about linking the names on here with their experiences is a good one. I think most of us try to do that mentally but it does get a little confusing sometimes remebering who has/said what. There are 5 to 6 people that post here that I trust almost unconditionally. The bottom line: if you don't know the answer, don't post a guess.

I've got to the piont were people as what mods do you have on your car. All I can say is I need a fuidyne radiator and a set of Race seat (Sparco).

Other than that I have everything else. Which is kind of sad.

:barf: because I know who much money I have in it. Plus I did everything my self too.

i think im in between noob and seasoned(more towards noob still). Ive installed everything myself so far(intake, bov, exhaust) and I'm about to install a turbo. Ive learned alot about these cars and I hope to learn alot more from the "seasoned" dsmers.
