It is getting so cold where i live, and i have a cone air intake on my B16G turbo. What would happen if i took off just the filter so it would just be the MAF. And drove around with just a little screen over it? Would my car be messed up would this be ok? let me know what you guys think

dirt and small rocks dont belong in your turbo...itd be alright for track runs but i dont suggest for daily drivin

Uh, what effects would the cold have on your filter?

Air filters are there for a reason. They keep gunk in the air out of the inside of your turbo and engine.

If you run without a filter for any considerable length of time, your engine will wear out prematurely. You might help it by changing the oil like every 500-1000 miles, but you're still going to introduce dirt into the inside of your engine (which will very quickly turn your oil to a thick sludge.)

I wouldn't suggest it...but like someone else said...you could do it for track runs...honestly though...you wont gain much power without the air filter...K&N filters already flow so much air, that not having one on isn't going to make it much easier to flow more air over that. You turbo will only flow so much open and the K&N filter can easily flow what your turbo asks for.

Sure running no filter is perfectly fine!

For some bizarre reason, there was no filter in the airbox when I bought the car (didn't notice for a couple weeks). Should I be worried?

I run an HKS filter on my car and at the track I pull out my headlight and take the foam out of the filter and just put the screen back on. It has a really nice velicoty stack inside the body of the filter so I leave that on howver juse take out the foam filter piece.

It gets colder air thats for sure, dunno how much extra power it makes it's hard to tell. I do know when I come back froma run the metal screen that holds the filter on is really hot, but when the headlight is out and the filter portion is out the metal screen is cool to the touch so I must be getting colder air than normal.
