The South,
i was wondering some opinions on what i was thinking about doing for my exhaust. I was thinking to NOT have one from cat-back and just run a pipe that dumps it from the DP to the ground...anyone done this on dsm before?

Here's a pic

Had this setup on my old Laser.

Worked pretty well. I -had- to put a muffler on it, I kept getting pulled over. Pretty loud with just an open downpipe, the turbo sounded SICK when it spooled.

Actually I had a glasspack on the end but it didn't quiet it down much..

Cool. anything else i could use to muffle it up a little? i was thinking of doing this because even when my muffler got hacked off the N1, it sounded the same as when the muffler was on, but then again, there were 2 resonators from the cat-back

I really wanted to keep the stock muffler hangin in the back and have a cut out after the downpipe. anyone have some tuning problems?/

-Beneath the AWD chassis, the only place you can put a muffler is where the cat is, it'll reduce your ground clearance to ~ 3".

I have 3in cat then a 3in Dyno Max Bullet and it's turned down after that. It sounds pretty good. I had just the cat and it was to loud but the glass pack help to make it a little quieter and deeper. It was annoying before. I'm thinking about one more glass pack though it's not to loud outside the car but inside it's a bit to much it just seems echo more in the car with it coming out underneath. Heh maybe one day I will finish my exhaust all the way to the back like I originally plan to when I first built it. I built all my exhaust my self with mandrel bends ( cut and weld ) but kinda didn't have time to finish and it kinda grew on me the way it is now.

A funny thing happened to me concerning this topic. When I had my starion I had a 2.5 inch top end performance downpipe and nothing else it was really kinda quiet like quiet unough not to get a ticket and it sounded awesome listening to the turbo spool and wine just like a semi. Then I took the stock exaust off my talon and left just the stock downpipe and oh boy was it loud ticket loud I dont really know why and I would like someone to explain.

-I also have 2 resonators (22"&12") without muffler, it's louder inside the car then outside.

was 1 resonator not enough?

-Kind of loud for me, I use the one from R///R, the inner wall of these resonator have small scoop (1/8") to catch the air, I 1st try the 12" on both directions, then the 22" both directions, I'm happy with this combo now with both resonators' scoop facing away from the axhaust flow direction.
-On another note, I think the N1 is not worth the $, b/c you don't really need the rear section(muffler+pipe), I try it with/without the muffler section, noise level didn't change, so why would you want to add an extra 10-15 lbs on your car, that almost the same weight reduction as a carbon fiber hood, that's why I make the side venting pipe with fake muffler in the back.

whaatt?? well i use to have the N1, but it got hacked off so i completely took off the turbo back N1 and am thinking of this newer setup
