Im rebuilding a 6 bolt motor and its taking the place of my super powerful 1.8...my question is should i just replace the stock 1g pistons or should i put 2g pistons on the 1g big rods, which i already have rings for....are 2g pistons worth the money to have them machined and fitted compared to the 1g's in terms of hp? I dont plan on going over 350hp so i know im sticking with the 1g big rods for now

If you're only planning on 350-400 horsepower or so, I'd go with whatever's cheaper. I have 2g pistons in my car, it's fairly stock otherwise, and I don't really notice any differences than from when it had the stock pistons.

Basically, unless you're really working on a super high performance car, go with whatever's cheaper and/or stronger, and both 1g an 2g pistons are supposedly similar in strength.

well, it all depends....easier to tune with lower compression and high boost than with higher compression and high boost

Honestly I would run the 2g pistons with metal headgasket, so that the compression comes down a bit from 8.5:1. Right now my motor is around 8.5:1 and I dont even like tuning very much on higher boost levels.

From dealing with DSMs anywhere from 7.5:1 to around 10:1 (it cranked out 275 psi in a compression check... dont ask) in general the lower compression always seemed to be alot better mannered in the way of knock and you could always squeeze a little more boost out of the lower compression motor.

In any case if you are only looking for 350-400 either choice would be okay. But my suggestions is the 1g big rod 2g piston combo which has been proven time and time again =]

Good luck
