I was not really sure where to post this thread but i guess that this is a decent spot. I have been threw a sh!t heap of sh!t with my car. 2 blown motors and a Crankwalk for the last time. I wanted to sell my car after every little incedent but i figured that i would keep trying and maybe i could get something right. I always crossed my fingers when i would start the motor up... Anyhow, after the crank walk problem... I decided hell one more try with the 7 bolt huh.. I'm crazy right? Well.... Heres how to tell you the truth i think i fixed a problem... Most people would agree on this about bad machining of the crank, poor oil galleries, miss alignment of the thrust bearing. I used the original crank from the 98 engine with a 92-99 7 bolt block some where in those years. The original crank was so messed up on the rod journals, that we had the crank machined down 20 thou on the rod jopurnals and 10 thou on the crank journals. We plastigaged everything to make sure that we had oil clearance. We put it back together all bolted up with 3 thou end play on the thrust bearing. 6000 miles later 12 pulls down the track and to my suprise today the Clevitte 77 bearings we used, the endplay was 3 thou still, i could not believe it. I could have been for certain that maybe it would have increased some... It stayed the same... But my DSM days are coming to an end, in total mods 8056 dollars have been spent, i am selling my car for a 2000 F-250 diesel work truck... Whether or not it would be something that fixed my crankwalk issue, as from what i can tell it did... Just giving you DSM'ers something to think about with 7 bolts.:thumb:

always a DSM fan

Glad to hear you licked your problem as you did. In the long run is where I would love to hear your results. Others have done what you did and didn't have such great results. Glad to see it's working out for you...

Just and update, the engine now has 11,270 miles on it or something like that. One problem has occured, the trans went out in 3rd gear, we pulled the trans out along with the motor since i guess we are experts now at the motor pulling, and all the syncros and gears were good... Then we noticed that there was a pin on the 3-4 shifting fork that broke. Oh and the crankwalk issue, the endplay has increased to 4 thou. Everything seems to be ok...

And for anyones thats intersested this is what i followed

and a lot of research throught dsmtuners was found.. thanks for everything guys

I figured that i would post an update on this.. Its been well about a whole year since the last post that i had on it. Since then i had sold the car and have heard back from the new owner that the engine has held up, it now has over 20,000 miles on the motor. And he has added a FMIC, and 550cc injectors, or so i have been told. To be honest with you, i am glad for him, as much trouble i had with that car, its held together so far for over 20,000 miles on it. I wondered in the back of my mind though about crankwalk, and a real reason as to why it hasn't happened again. I doubt if the flywheel being shaved down to its minimal depth has anything to do with it, but i guess it something to ponder on. I miss my car.. I am buying another one in the months to come. Prob a 99 gsx. Atleast this time i know even more what i am doing. This site rocks. ;)

CH152 did you have a 2600lb clutch, did you sit at the traffic lights with your foot still on the clutch? these things make a world of difference aswell. i'm glad you have had no probs' there are heaps of theory's on crankwalk but and it looks like your not going to find out. I will still stick with the Magnus theory of the squirters and their positioning. Funny how they were moved from the 1G design and then the problems started!

THe Clutch that i had on it was a clutch from advanced auto parts Called Zoom, by Power Torque Clutch. I used it once and it burnt out, and then i bought the same one again, and they sent me they version up from that. It gripped just fine. The thing crankwalked the first time from the reman motor i bought. i suppsidly fixed it after that. We changed the squirters out on it as well with the rebuild. Rebalanced everything, rods, cranked, line bore, polished everyhitng back up, and put it together with the link posted way up top in the start of the tread. THere is always going to be theories on why this thing happens. Aw well, i guess you can call it a happy ending somewhat.. wish i still had the car...

Does the new owner frequent any of the common DSM boards? I'd like to keep up with how the motor holds up over time.
