just wondering if 9:1 pistons are too much for a 50 trim ? i'll be using 15-16psi most of the time and if i do go to the track and now and then i might crank it up to drop the hammer... well i thought i'd be cool with that compression. well a sponcer IMPORT PERFORMANCE PARTS. said i couldn't he told me to get 8:3:1 or 8 i think thats kinda low and i'd be gettin full boost at what 4200k he said if i ran 9:1 i'd blow it up on my first run.. oh and his car he runs 7 to somethin and runs 60psi what the hell kinda turbo this guy got??? should i just buy from another vendor or what

yeah, my cars compression is 3.5 but I run 140psi on pump.

9.1 is fine. alot of people on this forum run that compression, its just not recommended for pump gas because tuning becomes a more delicate matter. but it doesnt mean you cant.

8.5 is the best all round performer though.

thats what i thought i tried to tell him there are people who have that compression.. he said they didn't and if they did they were retarded the motor would blow up. and he went on how his car's turbo runs 60psi and he runs 7 somethin compresion. i wanna see soem vid of this car. 60 psi sounds kinda hefty:rolleyes:

well it is a balancing act.

I dont know much about the turbo you are wanting to run, but what is it's efficiency range? Will the turbo be happy running 15-16psi, or is it happiest when making 24-26psi?

If the turbo is good at 15-16psi, then 9:1 pistons may be ok (again, I know nothing about that turbo so it will depend on tuning). However, if the turbo would rather run 20+psi, you may be better served to run a lower compression piston like the stock 1G 7.8:1

All this is done in the name of making the most power, while staving off detonation.

Go look at his bost gauge. I assure you it prolly goes to maybe 30 psi. Shop owners like to lie ;)
