just wondering, because this the first time i had a car with an external dump. is it going to be loud even at idle. or will it get loud when the wastegate opens.

Quiet as ever until it opens. :)

Don't do it in front of law enforcement. ;)

because mine at idle is really loud. but i just checked it and i dont have constant vacuum to the side port. so maybe thats it. were do you run your vacuum line that goes off the side of the wastegate.

It will be quiet until the gate opens, that will only happen when the turbo reaches the boost level that you have set with your boost controller.

Making turbo noises in front of the law is great fun. I accidentally vented 20 psi right at an unmarks window trying to make my exit one day.:p

He gave me some funny looks once we came off the exit ramp, built that was about it. I can only imagine an external dumping with the law around OMG

That goes to your boost controller (Profec B uses both). If it is raspy at idle, you may have installed the stepped metal 'o-ring' upside down.

Perhaps because you have a 15lb spring in your wastegate?

The side port gets the vacuum line to your manual boost controller. Leave the top port vented to the atmosphere OR I have seen some setups with the top port connected to a nipple in the intercooler piping. I am not totally sure as to the effect of this.

Electronic boost controllers use both ports. The difference in pressure between both ports is what the EBC uses to adjust boost to the level you set.

IF your wastegate is loud at idle the only thing I can think of is possibly a missing or improperly installed 0-ring, or perhaps you arent using gaskets on it. RRE sells tial 35 gaskets for about 6 bucks I think.

Did you install the valve seal that comes with the wastegate? My guess is that you didn't or it is in backwards causing a leak.

The reduced side points towards the wastegate valve.

I assume you mean the reduced (smaller of the two ends) goes into the manifold. If you put that side up, it holds the diaphram open.
