thats funny, hey buddy a 2nd gen isnt a redneck 85 5.0 rustang with a DISTRIBUTOR...

you could try and play with the trottle body, there's a hole right next to it you can turn with a screwdriver

Assuming you're not doing it to correct a problem with the car being off of the 5 degrees base, then the answer is:

let the ECU do it. The car deals with the timing fairly well on these cars, and it will advance it quite aggressively. I haven't done it personally, but I've read that a lot of people, when advancing their timing from 5 base to 8 base have lots of knock problems. When you're just cruising around, the timing will advance to 30-40 degrees anyway.

DO NOT POST IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT. If you are not sure the answer is right, do not say anything at all, you could easily send someone off on the wrong track.

That screw in the hole that you can turn is the BISS (Base Idle Speed Screw) which adjusts your base idle speed, and has nothing to do with timing.

Jesse, keep in mind that 2g's have much less agressive timing advance than 1g's, and thus, advacing base timing can be much more beneficial.

what degrees should the timing be at normally because last time i checked mine it was between top dead center and the first scribe before top dead center on the cover. Is this normal or no?
