i have seen quite a few engine pics with the heat shield over the exhaust manifold removed. i was just wondering what benefit this could have?

I actually think it just got lost along the way when I had to swap engines.
* It was just a piece of melted plastic hanign there:-( Now I made my own to protect the fan and radiator but I havent found a new blade for the fan yet...
