I've been thinking about getting a Supra SMIC. When I do I'll buy the dejontool upper intercooler pipe. But for the lower pipe I was thinking of a different route.

At my work we have 2.5" hard walled reinforced rubber marine exhaust hose. It is very strong and looks like it will hold boost, and seeing as how it is used for exhaust I would think it would hold up to under hood heat. It is also pliable enough that I could use a single length to go from the compressor outlet to the intercoller. It should connect directly to the intercooler, I have the dejontool 1.75" compressor outlet pipe. I was thinking I could get a 2.5" to 1.75" coupler and have an exhaust shop make me a small 2.5" pipe and weld some beads at both ends, to connect the coupler off the compressor to the 2.5" hose.

What do you guys think?

I've been looking at the Supra Sidemount too...
what's the diameter of the intercooler inlet? (on the bottom)
I think its like 2.25 from the install I've seen on this site.
If that's the case you might need another coupler, etc.
I hear it's a tight fit, but I'll probably go with the dejontool LICP... when I get around to this mod.
Good luck.

assuming you have the proper mods. with the bigger supra side mount how much boost could you run before running into heatsoak.

Use '93.5 on up. I have a Supra SMIC supporting my PTE-50 trim. This IC is awesome. Local Supra owners have dyno'd more than 500whp consistently with it. It definitely makes your car look like a sleeper ;)

how would a supra smic hold up with a 50 trim? How much boost would be able to run without heatsoaking it?

is this junk

From personal experiences, its not worth it. When you flip the endtank, you basically only have air running through half of the IC for the most part. After a few hard runs, feel the IC, its quite easy to see that by flipping the endtank, your totally screwing with the IC's cooling capacity.

Anyway that, making it fit, keeping it mounted, keeping it away from your tire, having it knock out your sidemarker light all the damn time, having a huge bump in the side of the bumoper from it pushing from inside...yea turn and run. Save up for a FMIC, they are getting pretty cheap now-a-days (21x9x3 tube and fin for $219 on ebay). Grab up a few bends from JCwhitney, go to NAPA get some t-bolts and 2.5" radiator hose for couplers, and get it done for under $400 total.

then why are they so recommended ? did you have aftermarket bumper?

I have a supra sidemount that I'm trying to rid myself of. I plan on running a 14B and so I'm not too concerned with the sidemount right now. If anyone is interested please let me know. Also, I'm looking for a 14B turbo if anyone has one.
