Hey guys,
there's a speed shop that does a 40-60 degree reduction on the head, i'm not really sure what that means, my buddy did it to his car but i couldn't see it. They have dyno tested it to give the car around 30 hp.
Now my questions, is there any downsides to this? Does anyone know what i'm talking about?

Thanks

I'll second that "no," and add that you should be looking at the well-documented mod paths of others.

I fourth or third or whatever it's up to. There's a pretty well documented, and successful upgrade path for these cars. You'd do best to stick by it *punches fist into hand* if you know what's good for you.

I can beat the dollar per horsepower on that one....

I spent $5 on a new rack-stop bolt, and jumped from 390 to 441, then to 455 by closing the wastegate a bit more(from 38psi to 42psi).

Sorry, off topic I know just felt like contributing. By the way, I have never heard of that kind of alterationon ANY kind of vehicle, gas, diesel, or otherwise.

Best Wishes, Hammer Down, Enjoy the Ride,
Will

for some reason this made me think of something a friends father did... back in the glorry day, basicaly he rubbed the head against sand paper to increasee the compression. LOL i dont know what this is either but you all should atleast open your mind to new things...

While there's no question that the guys in your area build some mean machines, I think that starting out with internal engine work as your first mod is highly unlikely to provide the same gains as some of the "tried and true" DSM mods. I'm sure that on a maxed-out racecar this guy might have an effective way squeezing more power out of it with this "secret" machining trick, but I just don't see him getting 30 more HP out of a stock 2G without raising the compression and thus, making further gains more difficult. Keep us posted.

your dad "rubbing the head against sandpaper to raise compression" is what milling you head is....and if he just rubbed it against sandpaper, then he probably had headgasket failures out the ying yang! it has to be pretty precise. milling the head is when you shave metal off the head which makes the cumbustion chambers in the head smaller, or gives them less volume which raises compression.

Lol, wasnt my dad, yeah i know, but now that i think about it, it was for his go cart, and it was a lawnmower engine

I do believe that is the back cut on the valves but shouldn't it be 45 degrees, never heard of a 40 degree cut, but then again there are people who are always looking for an edge.

p.s.: good type of freak.

I think hes talking about angle milling the head.Guessing the 60thou would come off the ex.side.Dont think the 20thou difference would make much change in valve angle though.Quick -someone do some math.
