well i plan on buying a 97-99 GSX with high miles, decent body hopfully i can find one for 8 grand or soo...

after that ill have atleast 10,000 to mod it

Id like to hit 10's but im not all that familar with how much it takes for a gsx to do that.

a friend of mine has a gsx with alot of mods and he can do most of the bolt ons, he said i should find a 6 bolt engine and build it, but im not sure if ill have enough money to build the trans, suspension and engine the right way, i dont want to cut any corners or take a cheap ass route to get into 10's
id like to stay off nitrous for now and spary later down the road.

im in the chicagoland area and as far as i know AMS is the only place that ive heard alot of good things from, are there anyother shops i can buy the parts at or get it tuned at?

if anyone has a car similar to the set up im talking about please share about how much it took to make it that way, or if anyone can briefly list some mods and how much they cost that would be a huge help!

10K for 10's...hmm...it MAY be possible but all you would do is engine work and you'd have stock tranny and suspension...so stuff would break real quick.

If you really want it then what you should do is not build a 4g63 2.0 motor but a 4g64 block with 4g63 head...that way you have a 2.4L...then put some sort of large trim T4 turbo on it.

Your going to need a built engine and head
Forged Pistons
Forged Rods
1-2mmOversized Valves (would help)
Stronger Valve Guides
Cams (HKS 272)
Stiffer Valve Springs and Stronger Retainers
Ported and Polished

Ok...thats BASICALLY the engine...there is more detailed work as well...such as ARP head studs...but I wont get into that

Then of course you'll need other normal mods like FMIC, Intake, Full 3" or even 3.5" turbo back exhaust

But most importantly you will need a standalone fuel managment system like the AEM EMS and somebody to tune it. If you are serious than it may be possible but I think your current vehicle is much easier to get into the 10's then a DSM would be.

well....shit how about mid to low 11's with 11k is that more reasonable? cause that on the street would own alot of cars...sucks to try to get traction without AWD!

and id rather have a dsm/honda over my camaro...

what about the trans? my friend got his built in michagan for 2500 i think, chrogenically frozen sycros =$ (sp)

just curious for a low 11 sec 1/4 mile how much hp would the car be pushing, at almost stock weight
:dsm:

"you owe me a 10 second car"

do you realize just how fast a 10 second 1/4 mile car is? Just curious because its really fking fast..

If you want a 10 second car then get a 1st Gen DSM. You'll need the extra money, its a lighter car, etc. Once you get to the 10sec level the cars not a great street car neways, so you don't want a 97-99.

What you need for reliable tens:

built 6 bolt engine : 1500-3k
60-1 turbo or larger : 1-1500k
Good intercooler : 1k
Good fuel system: 800
Cams : 550
Intake manifold : 550
BOV : 200
Intake : 100
Exhaust : 700
Clutch/flywheel : 750
Standalone : 1200
Decent gauges, turbo timers, braided clutch lines, hose, etc etc all left out

ALOT of tuning, that you don't know how to do your self obviously. You could prolly learn if you got the ems early into your mods and learned the system and played with it, in addition, theres a ton of other stuff you may need. I left out head work, as its not nessecary, but it would definitley help. Your going to break your stock tranny the minute you do anything but granny shift 3rd if you faster then high 11's. Thats another 1200-1500. Theres still a ton of other little things.

If your goal is a street car, aim for high 11's on race gas. You can do that on a stock engine without a standalone, and it will cost you 4-5k instead of 9-12, and the car will be MUCH nicer.

If your goal is a race car, get a 1g.

well i dont want a race car, a more streetable car, thats where i plan to do most of my races (street), so now im asking would i have enough for a mid to low 11 sec street car? with mild weight recudtion?

it seems like that is a much more reasonable goal, and again mid to low 11 sec street car is plenty fast for most of the cars around here!

how much hp would this car be pushin?
