Block Girdles

does anybody make aftermarket ones for the 1G, 6bolt, big rod motors?

Not that I am aware of, but man it would be a good idea if someone did. The early 7 bolt blocks are actually much stronger than the 6 bolts. You have a full, 1 piece main girdle as opposed to 3 puny main caps.

What is a Block Girdle, and what does it do?

Ties the main caps together. On a 6 bolt the outer caps are tied together, but the thrust bearing main cap is by itself. The 7 bolts have a 1 piece main girdle, ie all the caps are tied together.
