Homemade mods and performance

If i mod things such as UICP(couplers and pipes or press bent(only $50 bucks for complete piece)), Intake pipe with things like rubber couplers and straight pipes that flow better than stock will they provide performance as good as already made products?

Does anyone have these type of mods?

Don't use press bent, find some mandrel bends. When you say rubber couplers what do you mean? The Home Depot plumbing stuff? Don't do it. It isn't made to endure engine heat and 20 psi. Use radiatior hose, it's reinforced.
