I was looking at getting a jdm engine but i want to know the difference between the american 4g63 and the jdm version. what is with the different engine colors too?. The company i talked to said i would get the 4G63T red top cyclone (long block only). I was wondering if that would work. I am also looking at getting an EVO 3 motor with a black top. What is the difference with this motor? They also come with the japanese stock turbo? does it have more power?

This is one bad post.

There's no such thing as any sort of "Red top" or "Black top" motors. If they refer to the engines as this, I highly suggest finding a different importer.

Longblock only? I'm assuming this means no Intake manifold, no exhaust manifold, nothing like that. If it's a Galant motor, it's what you can get from any 1990-1992.5 USDM car, although it's possible that the Galant motor could be cleaner.

If you feel like blowing a wad of cash for dubious performance, go right ahead and buy an EVO3 motor.

Searching would've answered these questions.
 
correct me if im wrong but shouldnt an evo 3 have a titaninum colored valve cover?
the only real difference is the horsepower the engine puts out, jdm engines make a little but more hp stock, but u really should find a different place to buy it from, u should be able to get a longblock with both manifolds and a stock turbo, u might even find one with a stock big 16g if ur lucky, there is a jdm model that came with a b16g and 510cc injectors
if u do find an evo engine and u have a 2g thats what i would get, becasue u cant put an evo engine in a 1g, but make sure its the whole longblock with turbo and all, or else ur getting ripped off
 
The "red top" engine is a japanese GVR4 engine. They are the SAME ENGINES!

i have been pondering what to do with my engine. It has high miles and i have looked into a ton of ideas. I have looked at getting it rebuilt, i have looked at trying to get an american motor, and now i am checking out the jdm motor option. I have been trying to find a 1g motor to swap in to my car. everything costs about the same.
 
the only difference between the jdm gvr4 engine and the usdm one is about 20 horsepower, and thats probally from the less strict emmisions and the better intake manifold, if ur only buying the block and head and not the entire longblock with thrbu its really pointless to get a jdm engine, if u are ordering one with manifolds and the turbo u might find one that came with a small 16g, or u might even be able to find an rs model engine with 510cc injectors, but if ur just getting a block and head buy it from magnus and save urself the trouble of importing and talking a chance of getting a messed up engine
 
the evo 3's have like 260hp and come w/ a 16g right and 510cc injectors.........i'd say there is a big difference in the engines............ getting a motor w/ a 16 will save you like 500 bucks and the 510 cc injectors would be nice too, i would think u'd need a jdm computer for the injectors an all but u'd have to look that up... hope this helps later
