What's the best engine management system for our cars?
There are a lot of DSM's around here running microtech and haltech, but that's too much $$$.

I am aiming for a mid 12 car.

Thanks

There isn't 1 best system for all cars. But for a 95 with a goal of only 12s(or 11s, or probably even 10s), like what you have in your profile, there is. DSMLink is the only intelligent choice for a 95 owner. Anything else, and you are a chump. Unless you are building some absurdly high power engine with all sorts of custom parts in it, DSMLink will work great. Go search on it. This question has been asked a million different times, and the answer hasn't changed lately ;)

yeah i wouldnt even both with anything but an afc if you are only shooting for mid 12's...

other then that use what the tuner in your area is comfortable with..they are all good in the hands of a good tuner

will it do for a daily driver?
I'd rather go DSMlink in case i want to make more power

Its not about the power levels. Im pretty sure AFCs have gotten people into the 10s too. Its about the features. DSMLink allows you to tune the car. You can log with it, including logging your knock retard values, which nothing else short of a standalone will allow you to do on a 2G. The AFC doesnt even compare to it, because it lacks the logging ability that you will need to tune the car. The AFC messes with the airflow signal which screws with timing and fuel at the same time(not desirable). DSMLink allows you to independently adjust fuel and timing(desirable). Do a search on it, its the BEST way to get a daily driver 2G that is fast. Standalones will offer more capability, and you might even be able to get them tuned in to work smoother than stock for driving around daily. But that would cost lots more, and require MUCH more fine tuning. Read the archives.

for a 2g the dsmlink is the best thing u can get, u can run much faster then 12s with a dsm link, unless ur planing on having a beast that runs 10s u really dont need stand alone
for a 1g like mine id say the power fc is the best, its standalone and costs over a thousand but it doesnt need a laptop, it has its own controler
gtrvspec, do u have any experance with the power fc? im planing on getting one when my car gets to the point that it needs engine management, i just wanted to know how easy the interface was to use and understand, im hoping its not like the safc where its all complicated and the instructions are in japanese, more or less im asking if i can easily tune with it mysenf or if i should have a shop tune it on the dyno and then me make adjustments as needed

Please capitalize, spell, and punctuate to the best of your ability. Why is the PowerFC better than AEM? Because you heard it is? If you find the AFC complicated, and are unable to use tuning guides or the Apex-i website (www.apexi.com) to figure it out...should you really be giving advice?

ive never heard of anyone running a power fc on a dsm...i know they are the best for FD's, but ive never really heard of anyone else having the same good results with it.

if you are going to go stand alone i wouldnt base your choice just because it has some little controller instead of needing a laptop.

it all just depends on where you live and what tuners are around. like i said above get engine managment that you or your tuner is familiar with. in the hands of the right tuner just about any engine managment will work..and if you are confused by a simple thing like the afc then you are going to be in some serious trouble with a full stand alone

can i tune with the DSMlink myself?
or is it too hard to understand?

DSM link is basically just cables that wire into your ecu harness and changes the data, telling your ecu that u have 550, or 660, or whatever size injectors u buy. They sell the DSM Link for 550 660, 720, and 1000 i think. Im pretty sure u just plug em in, not positive, but i know its real simple compaired to other methods.

But a S-AFC II , the japanese version has 12 tuning points, knock features, and other kew stuff and looks pimp in your ride and is good for 10's - whatever. But if u want a beast, buy the haltech or DSM Link and get fat injectors now. cause if u get 550's now and a 550 dsm link, and u get say a green turbo, you'll want like 660's or above...there goes 900 down the drain...understand?

Just anticipate your own moves...

Basically all of this is wrong. Just go to the dsmlink web site and read for yourself. It's a lot more than just cables and telling the ECU you have bigger injectors.

You can download the manual and the software from their site.

You can compensate for increased injector flow and slower response time.

Larger injectors of the same design are slower.
Some high end large injectors are as fast as 550's.

You can do alot with DSM link.
