I am ordering a shortblock and head from slowboy and was wondering if anyone else here has done this??

I asked them if they could put it together for me so that its complete engine and I would just send them the other parts needed. Well they got back to me and said they have extra oil pans around, and that I only need to send them my Belts, Pullies, Front cover, and Cams.

Since I have never built an engine I could be mistaken, but wouldnt they need me to send them some more parts than this?
ie, wouldnt I need to send them lifters, rockers, valve cover, gaskets, ect. Or do you think they just misunderstood me and are just putting the head and block together?

Help would be nice from anyone who has went through slowboy and can tell me what to expect, or from anyone who knows what kind of work they do.

Thanks guys,
James

I've not ordered an engine from Slowboy, but I have ordered various parts from them. They are really nice folks and Mike Huml knows a heckuva lot about these cars. Based on my personal experience, and the great majority of opinions I've read, they are a very reputable dealer. That all said, there can be misunderstandings. Give them a call and ask your questions; I'm sure they'll answer everything to your satisfaction.

Well thats where my problems happen. I have been trying to call mike for like 4 weeks now, honestly its been at least 4 weeks. I can never get ahold of him, hes either too busy or out of the shop. I always talk to Dan, and he says he doesnt really know the situation so he will just leave Mike a note. That happens every time I call, well when I dont get the answering machine that is.

I'm not trying to bash these guys, cause they can answer about any question I had. But Mike is about impossible to get ahold of, I ordered my engine about 6 weeks ago, and he hasnt called me back yet. It was suppose to be done July 11th, so that I could get it in time for the shootout. Well the shootout has come and gone, and me with nothing. I did find out that they moved and thats why they are behind, but no one ever bothered to call and let me know it was going to be late.

I just talked to Dan again to day, and thats how I was able to find out what parts I need to send to them. But since he says hes not sure whats going on with my situation, I'm not sure if he knows what parts I should be sending.

I have dealt with mike numerous times on orders, nothing the major though like the engine deal. Email is the way i always go to talk to mike, try that and also try to call at like normal business hours for east coast or try early am times when most guys are just getting to work

good luck

I have never actually ordered anything from them, but I have talked to Mike about some technical things on several occasions, and every time he has been friendly and very helpful.

I also know several people who have been VERY happy with their SBR race motors and turbos.

....Kyle T.

i have ordered a block from them and they are really nice people they are shipping it too germany for me. They have been very patient with me because i send them lots of emails about questions and concerns i have.

Well actually I have emailed him a few times, but this time he must have just been looking around at threads and came across this one

I ordered an SBR Big16g ported/clipped with 34mm wastegate...only thing is the waste gate could have been ported a little more but its no big deal cause I'm not running under 17psi anyway...didn't have any problem and spoke to Mike directly.

yeah i heard good things about slowboy too, maybe ill have to do a little shopping there myself...who knows?? good luck with the engine man...

slowboy racing is awesome they have been the most knowledgeble and helpful for every question ive asked them. they always hook you up with good deals on parts especially if you were like me and in jam. they are themost down to earth shop ive delt with so far. so i will definatly be contacting mike again about a new turbo when the funds come in. keep up the good work slowboy rules!!!

I've also dealt with slowboy. Let's just put it this way, I ordered my b16G turbo on new years eve and got it on the 3rd of january. Slowboy is very knowledgeable and they do good business.......you shouldn't be disappointed. :thumb:

I have to echo everybody else's comments about Mike, he is extremely helpful and patient.......but, I ordered an install kit over a month ago and am still waiting on it. I know they're having a grand opening soon and IMO I think that customer service may have been affected b/c of so much going on w/ the grand opening. Well needless to say I'm still waiting on a call/e-mail from Mike to find out what happened w/ my kit and hopefully I'll have some good things to say in my review of their turbo, a g-57, when I get the install kit.

ok i would say they are standard as far as prices and what they have, but im very impressed by customer service, ive ordered from alot of different places and none have answered my emails except sbr, mike has emailed me back the next day or even the same day quite a few times

what pisses me off is the companies that dont answer their phone or emails, like diamondstarmotorsport, ive ordered alot of stuff from them and they ship fast and are cheap, but i tried calling them 5 times and have never had anyone answer the phone, they dont have a answering machine, and i sent 3 emails, first over a month ago and i still have not gotten ahold of anyone, so i gave up
