2g Airbag Removal?

Wasnt sure where to post this since its not a non-performance mod or newbie. I want to remove them for the weight savings.
I figure if Im ditching P/S, Cruise, and A/C to save weight, I might as well ditch the air bags too.

My question is how do I do it without them going off? I donot have a battery in the car at all right now. Is 12V current needed in order for them to go off? Or are they gas charged somehow?

I know the control box is under the center console, can I just unplug the harness' from it and take it out and then teh airbags wont go off while removing?

Help.

Hehe, they can still go off with no 12v source. Just handle them "gentle-like" and you'll be fine, and carry them with the top facing the ground (in case they blow, don't want it right in your face).
I actually did the same thing last year and just got around to molding a gauge pod to take the pass. sides place . If you want some tips for molding either a lightweight plain cover or a gauge pod, shoot me a PM and I'll send you pics of how I do it.

I took mine out and then drilled the plate off the front of the right side one. I held my breath the whole time and prayed. It did not go off. You will also have to pull the gusge cluster out and pull the SRS light out.

Thanks, that tells me how to get the passenger side one out. But I dotn see anywhere to get teh driver side one out, so who knows how to do that?

dont bother trying to sell them, they dont sell for jack, i had one on dsmtrader for like 6 months and wanted 75 bux for it, noone would take it

the driver side one just has some bolts in the back of the steering wheel and they are not that dangerous,really nothin short of crashing your car is gonna make them ignite.

14lbs weight savings for taking both of the air bags out
The driver side is 4lbs, comes out with the 4 bolts behind the wheel.
The passenger side is the heavy one at 10lbs. I think there were like 4 bolts holding it?

Also, under your center console there is a ECU for the bags that controls them, it probably weighs about 2lbs. So if you are taking out both bags then i would remove that little sensor also. Or its just dead weight you dont need.

I didnt unhook the battery, but im hardcore like that. Ive read that unless the ignition switch is to the on position then they can not activate.
If you are a vagina you might want to unhook the battery just to be "safe".
