Well I followed everyones advice and I threw some c16 in the tank and turned up the boost. My fuel settings were exactly the same as when I made my runs on pump gas. I wasnt really ready for how rich I would be running on c16. My wideband was reading really low 11s to high 10s most of the night. I was running so rich that I really thought something was wrong with the car. I think I am still a little nervous about that. I guess the good news is that I will have PLENTY of room in my fuel system for another few MPH.
I was really nervous about passing tech. Maple Grove is usually a very strict track and I have no cage. The guy doing tech was totally stunned when I told him I was running mid 12s :
:
When I first got there my boost was set around 30-31lbs Im not sure because the gauge only goes to 30 and it was pegged. Temp was in the high 80s. My first run after tech was.
60 1.95
1/8 7.399
MPH 99.11
¼ 11.24
MPH 129.44
I knew that as soon as I got my 2 step set properly I wouldnt embarrass myself so bad.
After that run I turned my boost down a bit to about 28-29lbs. I made several other passes trying to make it better and all I did was spin.
After awhile I got frustrated and made Wes take a pass. Wes took about 5% of fuel out. His pass was
60 1.873
1/8 7.42
MPH 100.04
¼ 11.23
MPH 130.37
It was really neat to see my car take off and go down the track. The crowds reaction was even funnier but more on that later. Wes and I were both kind of bummed after the run because we both thought that was going to be a 10 sec pass. After his run I made one more pass trying to beat his times and I ran a very interesting 12.0@126. In my defense track prep was not all that great and several cars did coat the track that night.
From examining my 6 slips from the day I am noticing a pattern. Regardless of low or high boost my 1/8 MPH is the same at about 100. If I can get the eighth mile ET down to the 7.4 range I will do 130 but if I I do a 7.9 or 8.0 I will do a 126. The same thing held true for my pump gas slip I ran a 8.0@99 and it was a 126.
I dont have any way to prove it but I really think my tires are spinning down most of the track thus causing me to lose time and MPH. The car did have a little side to side movement at the top of the track. I guess its just not a reasonable expectation to expect my 2 year old 245/40/17 Kuhmo Ecstas to provide adequate grip for a car making this much power. So when I woke up this morning and placed a call to Jegs to order real tires and a boost gauge that reads to 35lbs :headbang: Unfortunately the place I am buying my new rims from said they wont be able to get them to me before the SO :wuzrobbed:
I am kind of disappointed with the MPH I added about 8lbs of boost to my pump gas runs but I only gained about 3-4mph. The ass dyno tells me that I picked up a ton of power but my slips arent showing it. The car absolutely hauls ass down the big end of the track even with how rich it is running. On the street on the way too and from the track the car was a real handful. The car moves so fast through 4th. It was really hard to pay attention to all the gauges at the track. I think that if I could get a bit more tuning on c16 to get the AFR to a more reasonable level. I know 10 sec ETs are just a mater of time at this point and I am so psyched. I think the tires will be a HUGE help with this. I think if all goes well I might even be able to run a really high 10/low 11 on pump gas at 23lbs when the weather cools off.
Looking on the bright side of things I do think its pretty cool that even with the car running so rich and traction being terrible I can still click of really low 11s with high 10sec MPH. I drove too and from the track. The car still has the stock leather seats and back seats. With my stereo and a ton of junk on the back seats. Best of all nothing broke and Im not pushing any water at all.
Maple Grove is a very older domestic heavy track. The only imports aside from Wes and I are running 14s and 15s or worse. The people at the track were floored when they saw my car run. Wes and I were by far the fast street cars there. I think I was the fastest guy there that drove. I had all sorts of domestic guys coming up to compliment me. All of them asked if I was running nitrous and were surprised when I said hell no.
Hopefully I will have all my stuff sorted out by the SO. I know the track prep should be very good at Norwalk so I think I might walk away with a 10 sec slip.
Big thanks to Hesspower.com. It looks like very shortly he can say that he built 2 10 sec street cars.

We have already been through this
I can't wait to see the 10 sec beat in person Dave.
But Im sure Wes can find a way to make that thing fly too. Now I just have to see if I can convince Dave to make a few passes on my new rims/tires
