I've been through a 1g (worked fine but was silent recirc'd and I can't handle that) and a Turbo XS H34. This thing leaks all over the place and flutters like mad under light acceleration in 5th on the freeway... enough to make my car actually buck. What I'm looking for here is the best quality valve that won't leak, can be recirc'd, and won't make my car buck like it's vented  I guess the question is....is a Greddy Type R too much valve for a Big T28 boosting 20psi daily driven?

Tom

I say greddy type S. The type r has a spring in it for high boost. If you let of the throttle at low boost it wont react quick enough.

The spring that comes with the one I want to purchase is good up to 1.5 bar. That's 21.7557 psi. I run 20 regularly so is that gonna work? I just want the damn thing to not leak and run right.

Tom

Yeah but a type s will easily handle that and not leak.

The type r is pretty big, you dont really get an idea because it looks small on websites, but it is one of the bigest blow off valves on the market.

For a T28 I would really want a 1g BOV but if you really want to vent go with a Tial it is hands down the best valve on the market. From what I have seen with my friend’s Greddy R valve and a few others they are kindy crappy. The Tial would work a lot better.

I have my type-s recirced and it does fine. Plus the type-s has been proven to hold quite a bit of boost.

I read it the wrong way the first time too, he said he doesnt want it to buck like it is vented. He doesnt want it vented or I definantly would have suggested the tial.

The greddy is a good BOV the only problems I have seen is where people try and adjust it with the nut instead of the set screw and strip out the aluminum threads.

Ok to clear things up. I understand the size of the Type R valve and am prepared to modify my piping to fit. The only reason I'm interested in that valve is that it may hold better and still be able to rig up a recirc tube w/o much trouble. Tial won't work because I don't plan on getting rid of the MAS anytime soon. I've heard of the Type S leaking just as much as my Turbo XS so wtf do I do? Leaky BOVs are a pain in my ass.

Tom

Ok, I'm not going to let this die unanswered. I know there are a lot of experienced guys out there that have much larger setups than mine. Is this the valve to get? If I purchase one more friggin BOV and it doesn't work right I'm gonna give up on this stupid finnicky POS 4g63 powerplant.

Tom

I think the better question is why do you think you need to use an aftermarket valve if all you want to do is recirculate? NONE of the aftermarket works very well for the application you want to use it for. You can pick up a 1g valve for like 40 bucks and you know it will work great. You are just spending MORE money to get WORSE results.

i crushed my 1g bov and when i did a leak test i ran 25psi into the system and my bov wasnt leaking at all, when i get a new bov im getting a greddy type-S

I know this to be true, I was just hoping that somehow there would be something nicer with a LITTLE sound that would do the job.

Well I got the Type-S and it does just that...I have no leak problems and have run 20psi before so its fine.

I've had absolutely no problem with leakage and my Type S.

*shrug* If anything, it holds too much because I creep so much.

The BOV does not control boost creep...it is because your wastegate can not flow enough air out when it opens that some exhaust is still forced to go through the turbine wheel which spins it more creating more boost. Again, it has nothing to do with the BOV

I know it does not control creep, I'm making a bit of a joke about if I had a leaking BOV, it would relieve pressure, a la 2G BOV, which WILL give out if you creep. Or spike for that matter.

I suppose I wasn't clear on the "joke".

You have a big turbo, there's your problem :(. I've realized that big turbo setups are more headache than they're worth and even with a Big T28 still can't get my car to run right. I'm not sure whether I will try a Type S or just get the Type R...we'll see if I can borrow a Type S and find out if that fixes my problem.

Tom

the greddy type r BOV can be ordered with 2 different springs, 1 is made for use at low boost, about 15 psi, it can also be ordered with a stiffer spring for high boost applications, 20 to 35+ psi, get the one with the standard soft spring and it will work fine on a t28 at 20 psi, but with that turbo a type s would work just as good, and im not sure if u can adjust the sound on a type r like u can on a type s, im personally going to get a type r for my 1g
oh, u just noticed the topic creator has a 2g, well if u want a type r BOV u will have to have a custom upper IC pipe made with the flange either on the side or the bottom, the type R is quite big compared to other BOVs and will not clear the hood of a 2g unless u have a cutsom UICP made with the flange on the underside like on a 1g
money wise ur better off with a type s, unless ur planing on getting a turbo that will nake over 400hp a type s will work fine, its kinda a waste to pay to get a custom UICP made if u are going to keep the t28

Ah, some good feedback. I'm aware of the size issue and already have a plan to take care of it. Some people say a Type S will be fine and others say it leaks. I've never heard of a Type R leaking. The spring in the one I am looking to purchase said it was the 1.4 bar spring. I figure that's the softer one. I'll try to borrow a Type S and if it fixes the problem, I'll just get one of those.

Tom

good plan i borrowed a 1g valve once for a while...the car ran better with it but it just didn't sound like anything...not even when i vented it for a couple days
