1.8 to 2.0t and dmv

hey guys how hard would it be to do a complete engine swap?

I am looking at a 90 tsi with a very crappy body but the engine is good for at the max 1200.

would you guys suggest doing this? Will dmv throw a fit? my dad and bro are very good with mechanical stuff so we could do it ourself.


what are the pro's and cons of doing this?

I don't think anyone's ever thought of doing this before. Should be nothing to it. One, maybe two afternoons max.

There is a guy on here or maybe the other forum, he has the 1.8 turbo car.

After 300hp it broke so he did the 2.0 swap. I am pretty sure he would guide you through the whole thing.

Basically I would get a J spec engine/trans and then find and ecu and wiring harness. You might also want the turbo gauge cluster.

Ohh and dont forget an upgraded fuel pump because the 1.8 pump wont flow enough.

Well my 93 1.8l is 100% perfect interior and exterior. I found a 91 tsi that I could prob'ly pick up for 1200. but, the whole thing is crap except for the engine. it would need 2000 it get to look 1/2 as nice as mine.so I would probly stick the 91 engine into the 93. Does that sound like a plan or should I just pick up a nice running one and not have to deal with the stress?

What is a good price for a stock 1g tsi or gsx? or is a 2g say 95 turbo talon/eclipse better? I want a turbo charged car but I want a decent one. tired of settling for second best all the time

Over on another board, in there 1.8L section, there is this guy that went by the name Indy1979. He did a complete motor swap from 1.8 to 2.0. Here is a thread that discussed a lot of 1.8L topics including the 1.8 to 2.0 engine swap.
