Alright I was just wondering out of pure curiosity if a well supported 14b needs a FMIC. Im talking if you have your injectors, fpr, logger, safc, you know all the works. I have heard that these turbos are good to like 20 something psi and I find that impresive but can the stock smic keep up? Ive been told that having a front mount is an over kill but if the turbo is running that hard? Ive also heard that if you are going to have a well rounded 14b car that going with an external wastegate is worth looking into. Would a Tial 35mm be efficent? I know alot of you say this turbo isnt worth the time but if I can get 18-21 psi on a farely quick spooling turbo then that would be perfect for my daily driver.

that confused the hell outta me, but anyways, heres my $.02:
use 14b not as a high power turbo setup, but as a temporary solution to the T2small problem. it should not be seen as a permanent answer, and should not be a total replacement for a 20G or full garrett (50trim) setup. its good enough to use it now, you dont need a FMIC, although it would help as you push the turbo past 20psi and past its efficiency, which will create even more hot air. in that situation, a FMIC would help. also, an external wastegate would be dumb as hell, wouldnt make any diff. internals arent used on big turbos because they are too small and create boost creep, but on a small turbo that needs to dump less exhaust, a small gate (internal) is good enough.
sry if i didnt make ALOT of sense, but it was just 420, if u get what i mean ;) if not, ill explain later if you IM me, when im with it a little more ;)

A 14b is going to be incrediably inefficent at 20 PSi... I know I've seen an efficency graph for the 14b and past 17-18 psi it drops off dramatically. If your trying to have a temporary solution due to $ I would suggest getting a T-28 or larger turbo and keeping the boost down on the stock smic. Cheaper and better performance (even with low boost).

I really want to go with a t3/t4 but thats alot of money. Do you think I should just save my money and wait and not waste my time with a 14b? I could start to upgrade my fuel system now and get everything ready for the t3/t4. The only thing that sucks is I cant go and put a basic intake/exhaust and that bs on my car because I would have to change it out for the new turbo. You know what I could do, I could go get my thermal r&d catback, use just a filter on my stock intake tube, then do my injectors, fuel pump, safc, fpr, mbc, and whatever I can think of now. Do all the stuff that will work with my t25 and the t3/t4. Do you guys think that will be my best bet?

Wrong.

At 20 psi and 400 CFM of airflow, the 14b is still 70% efficient. That's pretty good.

A FMIC is a good mod on any car with any turbo. If you have the money to spend, go for it.

Im still unsure about the 14b. Should I put the time and money into it or just wait for a t3/t4?

I'd say if you were going to upgrade to a larger Mitsu turbo later (16, 18, 20, 25g) then yes the 14b would be worthwhile. Only because you would already have the oil and water lines and IC piping (I know 20g uses different piping but 16 and 18 uses the same) in place. That way your car would already be ready for that 20g or whatever. However since you are wanting to go T3/T4 I would say don't do it. The feed and return lines are going to be different and so will the manifol and O2 and other things. So in your case I would say get everything in anticipation of the T3/T4, just hold off on the injector and AFC install until you get the turbo since you won't need them with the T25. I hope this helps you a little bit and good luck with whatever you decide on.

An extrenal gate is a waste of money on a 14b. I say go for it and save up for a nice turbo and frontmount.

You wont need a front mount to take full advantage of the 14b. When you goto the track you can just use race gas and run 20psi or better.

On the street keep ti at 17 psi with some 92 octane.
