cant really get a good clean unless you take it out
Just take it out clean it with alcohol/gasoline/acetone/brake kleen or w/e then block off the egr, polish/smooth the runners and your set!

or spray carb choke cleaner in yer throttle body, that sorta works

I figured I had to take it out but just thought I'd ask. I have already sprayed throttle body cleaner in it. Thanks for the replys.

Can you hot tank aluminum? Anyways You'll have to take it off to clean it.

How difficult is it to remove?? I have a Chiltons manual but I just want someones two cents on removing it.:thumb:

When I blew my head gasket and had to take my head off I had to remove both Manifolds. Exhaust was easy. And although on the Intake Manifold the top bolts that fastened it to the head were easy to get off. I just Couldnt get the bolts that werent visible on the bottom of the manifold. I even tried going in from under the car but I still couldnt get em. So what i ended up doing was just taking off the support and pulled the head and the manifold off together as one unit and then once I had it out of the car I took the manifold off of the head. So yah I would also Very much so like to know if anyone has any tips on Intake Manifold Removal.

Umm, I just did the MCCC treatment on my car (see the VFAQ). when i took the TB off, my intake mani was supa clean! (well alot cleaner than b4)

my intake manifold is so horribly dirty it is unbelievable, if the runners are like 30mm wide, they are probably only like 20mm because theres so much gunk on the inside LOL, i can stick my finger in there and pull it out in a big wad on my finger, i blocked off my egr and cleaned the tb but definately cleaning the manifold would be a good idea, and after looking at it i havent done it because it looks like its nearly impossible to get to those lower bolts

1. Remove the manifold.

2. Douse the inside and outside in foaming engine cleaner.

3. Let is soak a while.

4. Spray it with a pressure washer.

5. Repeat if neccessary.

I only needed to do that once when I cleaned up my stuff for the swap.

Don't have a pressure washer?

Soak it a while and sneak it into a self serve car wash.
