Well I went to the track this weekend. I ran a 12.6 on PUMP at 19 PSI. I am pretty happy with this.

I went and put in some race gas and upped the boost to 23 PSI. The car was popping around the high end of boost. Currently I am running the BPR7ES with a .028 gap. It is fine up until 20PSI. The knock counts were low so it was NOT pulling timing. I was also a little on the rich side at .94 volts O2.

Someone suggested going to the BPR8Es. What do you guys think? Should they also be gapped at .028 ? Is there any drawbacks of running a plug this cold?

TIA

Use the plugs you have, just gap them down to around .024. The miss should go away.

Only drawback I can think of on running a colder plug is that they will carbon up faster. But that is easily remedied by cleaning them every few weeks or so.

Ed, you could also try leaning out when using race gas so plugs don't get build up on them. That will definitely cause miss no matter what plug you use and gap.

I tried to lean it out, but when I tried to make some more runs I kept blowing off the I/C couplings. I blew a hole in the first one. I will try it some more this week.

Thanx

Also, replace the bpr7es somewhat regularly. The single electrode works well, but it shortens the plug life compared to the dual electrode setup on the stock bpr6ekn plugs. As soon as the edges on the electrode start rounding off, it makes it MUCH harder for the spark to jump the gap.

hmm, my plugs were getting quite round on the end, i thought they lasted quite a while, after a few thousand miles mine were nice and round and were not gapped correct anymore, some were as high as .035 and i had gapped them at .028, im putting new ones in this week anyway
