I am planning on an engine build-up real soon. I was reading under the parts catalog and saw the groden rods. Has any one see these rods in use? It looks like a good rad, and is stronger then crower is great too. So any one got these or know someone who has.:dsm:

I am pretty sure the Shepherd was running Groden rods for a season or more. The big thing with that rod is that its aluminum so it would be MUCH lighter. From what I have heard it isn’t a great idea to run an aluminum rod on a street motor but I don’t think enough people are running them to say either way. Personally Crower or Pauter rods are more than enough to make all the power I want in my setup. The weight isn’t worth worrying about the rods stretching.

the motor im getting has these rods in it...ive heard that the rods may have problems with running a long length of time, however im not too concerned since my car is a summer car only, i wont put more than 10k on it a year...

I wouldn't use any aluminum rods on the street. Most aluminum rods are only good for 4 or five drag passes. I wanted to know if anyone here had used them.

That is more than an exaggeration. NO ONE has enough time or money budgeted to tear down their motor that often. While I wouldn’t recommend it on the street and no one that I have ever heard of has ever run them on the street. They certainly aren’t on a 5 pass replacement cycle

PS if you are really nervous call BJ's Cylinder head. I am pretty sure he has put them in most of the DSMs that run them.

No...... I have friends that have had aluminum rods in there porche race cars. They are good for weight not strength. Titanium rods are strong rods. 5 my be a little soon, but the forces that it must endure in high horsepower applications, I have never seen aluminum rods last more then a few races. also you would be suprized at some budgets. Besides $600 dollars is not much for rods. Pauter Titanium Rods for 4g63 are $2200 a set. And there regular ones are $800.
