Nova,
hello all.

Well, I'm starting a re-build, I just finished calling up the machine shops to get quotes on the block work. A couple of questions arose after I thought about a few things.

With the hot tanking process, I assume that the coating that we have on our block will come off, yes? will I be able to paint it or will it just flake off so I need to have it powdercoated?

About pistons, are there any forged pistons that are not full floating wrist pin that fit on 1G big rods WITHOUT requiring machining of the rods? I.E. are those ross and or wiseco pistons that a lot of places sell for 1G's meant for bone stock non-full float rods, or do they require bushed stock/ eagle/ crower/ pauter rods?

Oh, and I am removing the b/s, so I am balancing the rotating assembly as well. I'm wondering how well our rotating assemblies are balanced from the factory (although I guess it would tend to vary slightly from one car to the next)? I was going to have the crank, rods, pistons, flywheel, and clutch done. How necessary do you think this is?,It is on the expensive side and may not even be necessary if mitsu made it well balanced to begin with.

-thanks

Tanking will take off all paint. Engine paint works fine on a clean block.

Ask your machinist about pistons, rods and pins. These guys do this stuff all the time, and have the best, most current and first-hand information on it. Used rods are always reconditioned, which includes sizing both ends as well as straightening.

Rotating mass balancing is routine, and yes, it's done at the factory but I have no idea of the specs. I'm against removing balancer shafts, but I'm a street driver.
