Sorry if this has been asked 100 times before but i have some aplication questions for a 20G turbo.
1. Does a Mitsubishi 20G turbo bolt directly up to a stock 1G manifold, 2G manifold and or EVO 3 manifold?
2. When would a 38mm internal wastegate become useless and have to be upgraded?
3. Would a Supra SMIC be good enough while running a 20G or is a FMIC absolutely nessesary?
4. Are 720cc injectors recomended for a 20G application?
5. Would a low pressure 255 fuel pump be good enough and would it require a FPRegulator with this application?
Thanks alot for the time and once again sorry if this has been asked already.

90' AWD 5speed

1. yes
2. maybe never, that's big.
3. Supra IC would work, but you won't get the most out of the 20G without a good FMIC.
4. 650's are ideal, 720's aren't much harder to tune.
5. 255 lp is good enough, might require an adjustable FPR. some cars seem to work without an AFPR.

^^ I agree for the most part.

2. External wastegate :)

I know a 34mm gate crept on my 16g. I have no personal experience with the 38mm.

Well, OK. There is more to boost creep than just the wastegate size. I have no creep with my 34mm gate on a big 16g. But it's also very well ported, with a nicely ported O2 housing. Hopefully you get the right porting done with the 38mm gate.

What would you say is needed to run a 20G turbo? I am debating between a big 16G down the road but i think i may want that extra power from a 20G. I have read that you need the 90degree elbow where the LICP and the turbo meet. What other changes would i have to make to run a 20G. And what mods are needed to suport it.
Ex. 720CC injectors, 190 fuel pump 3" or 2.5" exhuast
Thanks

If it helps, i'm using a 20g and i have 660cc injectors, i have to tune them way down with the safc, like -20% in the mid, and -15% in the high. Also, like said earlier, i'm pretty sure you need an external wastegate. And oh ya, you have to lose the J pipe from the 14b, 16g...etc.

Well, to the question about "Is a 38 mm internal wastegate big enough?"... that all depends on a number of things. Like someone else mentioned, porting of the turbo, O2 sensor housing (or even better, a tubular O2 sensor housing,) 3" exhaust is recommended to take advantage of a 20g. Also, internal gates will creep at lower boost levels. For example (hypothetical numbers) If you plan on running nothing less than say 20 psi, I would imagine a 38 mm internal gate would be fine. If you want to run 13 psi, you would experience creep. Of course your specific results may be different, but internals tend to creep at lower boost levels whereas external gates provide "rock-solid" boost control (more or less.) There's a number of different factors that come into play here, such as sizing of the wastegate, spring rates for externals, etc. I think your best bet would be to go external ;). A Tial 40mm will most likely be all you'll ever need. It might be best to bounce these ideas off the vendor you plan on buying from also. :thumb:

P.S. I plan on going with a turbo similar to a 20g, more like a Garrett/Mitsu Hybrid maybe... something like SBR's M50... so let me know how everything turns out ;)

like you said i dont wanna replace stuff twice also...

So heres a quick question, i have the factory 14b turbo, i wanna get a 20g next summer, so should i get the external waste gate flange welded on my exaust that i plan on odering, but i want my turbo to work with this exaust, and work for my turbo upgrade next summer>>

Thanks,
-KY
