I just changed my plugs and when i pulled the first one out its coated in oil and oil is leaking out of my exaust manifold at that cylinder..... WHAT DO I DO TO FIX THIS :cry:
 
i dont, im just scared cause i just emptied my wallet getting a new tranny....... now this, this is bullshit!!!!! what is involved in replacing the piston rings... isnt it basicly taking the whole engine apart?
 
Your basically looking at rebuild since you need to take the whole engine apart.
 
It could also be the valvestem seals. If they leak, oil runs down the valvestem and into the ports. To check it, take off the manifod and look at the valvestems.

Oil coming from the piston rings usually gets burned into smoke during combustion.
 
valves=HEAD, better than a rebuilding an engine
 
If it's your valve stem seals it's a little better. Not amazingly hard. If you plan on leaving the head on the motor it'll be more difficult than with it off. I'd suggest pulling it.
 
There's a VFAQ on changing valvestem seals. If you choose to do it with the head on the car, be careful not to loose any valves in the motor.
 
He should really do a compression leakdown test and see if it is the rings or not.

Nobody even asked how many miles were on the car and how much abuse the engine has taken.
 
hey my car drinks oil like it's fuel so i wouldn't be to worried.. hell mine uses 2 quarts a day if i run it wot all day LOL (only done that once)

and 1 quart every 2-3 days of mild driveing....(useing 10w-30 full syn)
 
When you check the compression, if it is low on a cylinder, pour a capful of oil in there and see if it rises. If it goes up, it's your rings.
And on my Celica, I had oil on two plugs and replaced the spark plug tube seals and that stopped it. I don't know if you guys have seals around the spark plug tube or not so...
