Help quick! Will a g1 turbo short block work on a 1997 gst engine?

I am looking to buy a short block to replace the brocken one in a 1997 gst and was wondering what the best way to go is. Originally I was just going to purchase another g2 turbo one but someone told me that the g1 short block was stronger.

Is this true?

As long as it is a turbo one it will bolt directly in place of my current one. Right?

Does it matter what year? I was told 90-92 but wouldn't those be the same as a 92-94?

-1g's motor could be either a 6 bolt or a 7 bolt .
