Im saving for mods right now but I was just thinking about my turbo setup. I plan on going with a L2R and I will be running propane. What I was thinking about was the wastegate setup. I would like to port out my exhaust mani or get an evo one if it will line up. For the wastegate I want to get a tial 34mm. What I would like to know here is if anyone has video or audio footage of a dsm dumping the wastegate to the atmosphere. I remember seeing a silver 2g spyder on here that had the dump tube coming out the front bumper. He is part of a business I believe. Anyone know who Im talking about? Anyway I just want to know what it sounds like and if there are any benefits to dumping or recirculating to the down pipe? Thanks for the help guys:dsm:

OK I found out it is John Huh from Pro Street Online. I just couldnt put my finger on his name when I posted this earlier. I shot him off an email so Ill let you guys know what he said when he gets back to me. This thread is still open to other peoples suggestions and comments. If you have any info please let me know, this is all new to me.

pros for the external: more power

cons: loud with the gate open, not street legal

i have my dump semi finished. currently its setup to dump right behind the radiator, way down near the ground. eventually it will go out the bumper. i'm going to put a flex on it, and also hand build a custom muffler for it. the tubing is 2" and the muffler will be 3" od. i will have a polished aluminum piece on the bumper as the exit. it will be one of these.

Yep, it is John. Here is a picture of his external dump tube. It's SUPER loud :)

I don't really recomend external dumps for daily driven cars. It's fun for a while, but it gets old after a couple months.
Why are you buying a cast o2 housing if you're getting an external gate anyway?

I think dumping to atmosphere really is the best way to do it personally. Prevents reversion or turbulence by reintroducing the expelled gases back into the downpipe.

The only thing bad of course about dumping out is where to dump the exhaust gases to. If you are dumping straight down, these gases are probably heating up your oil pan and oil return line ( depending on how you have the piping run )

Remember that WG exhaust is like your cars exhaust, should be free flowing, little to no bends and not restrictive, thus why I route mine out of the bumper.. A little weird granted but I like it ;) Hope that helps.

BIG Video

Thanks for all the info guys and I am downloading the video now. I was actually thinking about the exhaust manifold alot. Should I go with a tubular? I havent heard good things from the tubular header because they crack alot. What would you guys recommend I do for a manifold when I do this setup this summer? Thanks agian for helping out.

That's real sweet except make sure you make a bracket for it because a friend of mine did that and ended up burning a hole in his bumper. Do you have more pic of it's set up. :thumb:

John I downloaded the video but I cant hear your wastegate because you have the music over it. I mean drowning pool is cool and all but I was hoping I could hear what your wastegate sounds like. Can you describe it to me or link me to another video where you can hear it?

Doh I'm retarded, I thought you said you were buying an evo o2 housing
I'd stay with a cast manifold personally.

Tubular manifolds done right are perfectly streetable, by done right I mean something that isnt made in China and isnt paper thin and just for looks. ( read 90percent of the tubulars out there ) Stick to the proven Turbonetics t3/t4 cast manifolds for a sure deal.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the info on the manifold. I cant run an L2R with a t3/t4 mani though right? Isnt the plate or the opening a different size? If this is true what manifold should I get for an L2R? Or should I look into a t3/t4? Also what about the sound john? I cant hear the cars over the music so its still hard to tell. Thanks for the info agian though, I appreciate it.

Same wheel combo in a Garrett turbine housing bolted on to a t3/t4 manifold.

the l2r is essentially a garrett turbo, only difference being the turbine housing. i have the turbonetics manifold, its ok, much better after i cleaned and massaged things a bit. i'll be making myself a tubular manifold some time to replace it though. i'll be using thick mild steel, either 11 gauge or schedule 40.

Draculia, are you not satisfied with the turbonetics tubular exhaust manifold? Why? So do you guys think I should go with a t3/t4 with the mani and tial wastegate or should I get the L2R, the t3/t4 mani, and the tial? I know its what I want in the end but I am having trouble making up my mind. Ive heard such great things about AGP and their products. What are your guys thoughts on this? Also, can someone still explain to me what the sound of a wastegate being dumped to the atmosphere sounds like please?

Sound....

BRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAPPPPP>>>>>>>>>BRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAPPPPP

Think Harley mixed with 4cyl Turbo ;)
