I was wondering if anyone could help me out on this. My engine has 153,00 miles on it. The bottom end has never been rebuilt, only the head. I have just started leaking through the valve guides ( the only part of the head that wasnt rebuilt). I already have 2g pistons, rings and machined 1g rods.

My question is, do i really NEED to rebuild my bottom? if i do, im going to go all arp, ballance shaft removal, poly eng mounts ect.....which is going to run me over 700$ plus. what i was thinking about doing was just rebuilding the head, selling my rods, piston/rings and investing in a good set of agxs and eibachs. I really need help deciding, any suggestions? thanks.

Also, my 2G rods, pistons and rings have not been installed yet. The 700$ is with crank bearings, head gaskets, valve guides ect.....and i will be doing all the work myself.

If a compression check shows the rings to be good, and you aren't burning any oil through the rings, then I don't see much point in messing with the shortblock. If something happens to it later, so be it, but if it ain't broke then don't fix it.

Thats what i have been thinking. I think thats what im going to do but the more suggestions, the better! Come on people, chime in! thanks Deus.

You really need compression test numbers to accurately assess the situation with the block. I agree that if the compression and rings check out, don't bother with the short block. Just do the head and move along w/your life.
