Help with motor

I just finished the install of a 6-bolt in my GSX, now the question I have is it normal for the car to sound like a diesel tractor at idle before the ignition timing is set?

no it is not....check your plug wires...

I did and I have spark to all cylinders, I have new plugs and new wires. The head was done by a local machine shop, would it be possible to have a sticky valve?

I also double-checked the timing last night to make sure it didn’t skip at start-up, and everything was perfect.

Sounds like you might have some pumped up lifters how long have you run it!

10-15 min max, it just sounded horrible so I turned it off. I will have a timing gun tonight so I can set the ignition timing and work from there.

what exacty is the car doing...does it just make a very loud chatter???does it idle fine and does the throttle seem responsive???

The throttle is responsive and it idles right at 800rpm, but it makes allot of loud chatter

check your exhaust manifold...i snapped a stud off in the head once and it made the loudest chatter i have ever heard...it sounded like something was seriously wrong with the car...once i replaced the stud and tightened up the manifold, the sound went away...

I'll check tonight, but I think they are all good I just installed all new studs, manifold and turbo.

Seriously, that exhaust leak sounded like a rod knocking, only the noise was coming from up in the head…hope you get everything figured out, though

Cool thanx, I'll check everything over again and set the ignition timing tonight, hopefully my problem will go away.
