rough running at low rpms and check engine light conencted?

well my 95 tsi awd was running at about 1-200 rpms idle. yes it was actually running but not well. i got the biss screw cranked way out and have it idleing at almost 1000 now. it warms up and is better but the check engine light is on still. i got a bit of click/hard tapping noise (i think a lifter or two, haven't had the chance to pull vc yet) when the engine speeds up from idle to about 2000-2,300 rpms. i don't it's anything serious internally though. any insight or thoughts on my perdicament? oh and there is a slight hazy exhaust smoke but no smell or real leaks anywhere. i'm gonna check the pcv valve first. HELP!

my car had the same problem. mine would idle at about 3000 rpm and after i started to drive, it would idle at 2500 rpm. i just got a new BISS and turned it, now it idles around 750, perfect.
