I blew the motor on my 98gsx and i ordered a rebuilt from ATK. The engine that came in has the cam position sensor on the intake cam, on the pulley side of the engine, and my 98 gsx has the sensor on the intake cam but on the back of the engine.
Does any one know what motor i recieved?
My problem is that the wiring will not fit, so what we're going to do is to get a couple of new 98 cams and the cam sensor housing so that we can mount it on the back of the engine, does this sound like it will work?

PLEASE HELP

the problem is that it will be 4-6 weeks before they will have another one i could of had mike at slow boy build me one.

Unless ATK approves you will void the warranty. My memory is a littlle off right now but I believe you have a pre mid 97 engine.

atk recomended doing this, and said that it would not void the warrenty.
I talked to DSMotorsport and they said that it's a 95-96 motor.
if this is true are their any other differences in the motor itself (pistons. etc...?)
are there any major weaknesses beside the usual CW?

According to my Recon engine book 95 to 4-97 cam sensor on front.
4-97 till 99 sensor on back of head. Only difference. Waht happened to
your other engine?

Another thing I found was two different cranks listed for these years with a note about different thrust bearngs. Have to order them in and take a look them.

Zex,
thanks,
about three weeks ago i started my car up in the morning and was getting a squealing from the belts, i had just bought new belts so i thought nothing of it about a 1/4 miles from my girls house my car died, come to find out my crankshaft pulley separated causing my ac belt to break it then wraped it's self around the timing belt jumping the timeing and completely destroying my engine, i pulled the spark plugs out and the electrodes had been completely crushed, when you looked at the top of the piston you could see where the valves had been embedded in the top, this was 4 weeks ago.
on the 95-97 motor on the rear of the motor is there a plug that you think can be taken out to mount the cam position sensor support that are used on the 98-99's?

Good question, don't have info in front of me........Anbody else?

I believe that sometime late in 98 they changed to a different type of bearing. Supposedly thats why you don't see as many 98-99 cw, but then again, it could be because they are newer cars. Regardless, they still cw, just not as often. If it was me, I would have done a 6bolt swap and then not really worry about the cw issue.

can some one tell me if this is true that they did change the thrust bearing in late 97-99 engines, and does that even matter if the reason for the CW is bad oilers or narrow oil journels on the crank itself.
This has been weighing on my head sience i found out what engine i got seeing that i only have a 3yr warrenty.
In speaking w/ ATK they have said the they have enlarged the journels i guess that i'll be praying to the car gods and not install the ACT2600 any time soon.

I just can not wait another 6 weeks to get my car back i've been driving around in a neon.
