Hey guys, I'm new here. I was considering getting an FMIC kit that is made for a 2G (specifically 1997-99) turbo/AWD such as the GReddy one. I was just wondering, since I don't know anybody who has personally installed one yet while retaining their stock bumper, do you lose the functionality of your OEM fog lights? I've heard conflicting reports, probably because some FMICs take up more space than others. Does anyone know? Or if I were to go with a 'Universal FMIC' like one from Blitz and just install custom piping, would that circumvent the problem? Thanks.

PS. The reason I ask is that I plan to also put on the QuWhees WideBody kit. For those of you that don't know, it's an 11 piece kit that bolts on to the stock body. Therefore if I lost the use of the fogs, those two circles would be pointless to keep around. By the way, is anybody going to HIN in Boston? Maybe I'll see some of you guys there.

"Big GReddy 2G FMIC KIT

It's big. The Core that GReddy uses for this kit is 23" by 11". All piping to go to and from the stock intercooler location is included along with the necessary mounting brackets. On the 97-99 cars the fog lights will remain, on the 95-96 cars they have to go. It is built with the '97-'98 front bumper in mind however it will work on the '95-'96 bumper, you will most likely remove the grill strakes. Some cutting must be done on the end of the bumper reinforcement. It is not in an area where it will affect structural integrity."

Personnally I would spend al little more cash for another kit..the piping for the greddy is waaaaaay to entirely long....its just so excessive..but its good for the price..
That's because it is intended to route back to the stock location. I currently have the Big GReddy fmic supporting my FP ported Big28, and it works great. I only had a pressure drop of about 1 to 1.5psi. There are better fmic's out there, but the Big GReddy can be had for a great price new and used, and can support alot of power. I think larryd made 380whp with his AGP L2R and the Big GReddy fmic, along with other supporting mods of course.

O-kay. So we know he can keep his foglights with an Apexi and the Big Greddy. Let's not confuse the guy. If you talk to twenty people you get twenty different answers about which intercooler to buy. They all have pro's and con's. Find one for your budget. I'm sure you won't be disappointed with this upgrade.

Trying to get a point across. Just kidding. My computer was whacked last night.:D

Thanks all. You've been a great help. I think I will get the GReddy or APEXi then. :)

I was wondering the same thing, for $449 it doesn't sound to bad.

you have to condsider what make a frontmount good. it right in the way of on comming air. a side mount is hidden in the bumper. and i have heard that a thick core like that has heat soak problems.

check out ADFX Racing (www.adfxracing.com). I know they were having a group guy on the 2g fmic kit... under $800 to your door and they retain use of the fog lights. I have their fmic on my 1g and love it. :D
