WebCams Vs. HKS Cams idle?!

Okay, dont worry I am not even considering to purchase a set of webs. I learned a lesson.

The reason is I cant decide between the 264/272 combo or the straight 272's.

My main concern is the idle. I considered the webs 546/547 a little to choppy for me, to much vidration.

So how does the idle on a set HKS 272in-272ex compare to a set of webs 546/547?

I am looking at a 50trim minumum. so a set of 272's will make a difference, but if the idle isnt too good then no thanks. 264/272 will be fine.


Oh, and by the way. if someone has got any videos of the cams during idle i'd appreciate it if they would post them..

HKS cams have much better idle not because they are much “smaller” but because they are much better manufactured. The variations between the lobs are very small (unlike Web), so the idle is much more stable.

If I had to buy a new set of HKS cams, I would go for 272s. If you are buying them used and getting a good deal, get whatever you can .

Leon,i've heard alot of different variations with peoples stories,how bad is the idle on the twin 272 combo? and do you by chance know their operating range?

My car with a VPC and 272/272 idles fine. Friends car with a DSMlink and 272/272 idles fine. I run 720ccs, he runs 750ccs.

What rpm is the idle set to.

any stalling problems. I know I use to have some with my webs.

Ya I rode in candela's car and the idle was fine with the 272's. Although it's tough to tell with car vibrating like a biatch from the poly mounts.

People who report idle problems with 272s usually have VPC. My idle with VPC was never great, but it hasn't gotten much worse with 272's.

Unlike V8's, DSM cams are not usually rated by RPM range.

No, your turbo choice will have much bigger effect on the bottom end than your cams choice.

my webs idle fine at 1000rpm, unless you're a girl. they sound downright nasty but feel fine

Those were Crower Stage II. I now have HKS 264/272 and they idle awesome. The car purrs like stock with a nice little lobe coming out the exhaust.

I've got HKS 272/272
But you may get a CE light for random miss fire. But it idle and sound awesome.
